Re: Pro Tools LE 8 on Mac OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion?

PTLE 8.0.5 working for me too on OS 10.8 ML. Horray!

Strangely enough I didn't need to update my Mbox 2 mini driver, which is an oldish Digidesign-branded one from 2008 I think...

Re: about the spdif toslink on the g5

Apparently the Optical Out supports surround sound formats, but then of course Dolby Digital and DTS are simply matrixed stereo tracks, not 6 discrete channels. I don't suppose Apple will be realtime...

Re: OT: So, what do you think about the iTunes Music Store?

Actually, you can. There's an app called Audio Hijack Pro. Its main claim to fame is that it can "hijack" internal audio routings from applications and save the stream as an MP3 or even a 24bit AIFF...

Re: OT: So, what do you think about the iTunes Music Store?

As I mentioned earlier, I can't actually buy music from the IMS, but I have ripped a few CDs using AAC (@192Kbps) and through my decent headphones at least, it sounds pretty darn good. On my earlier...

Re: Triple J/Noise Remix Competittion - Remix Silverchair, The Waifs....

It's great isn't it? I wish Digi had more stuff like this for newbies to play with before they get stuck into tracking and trying to record bands and the like.

An Australian band called Brunatex...

Re: OT: So, what do you think about the iTunes Music Store?

Like many of us who don't have US-addressed Credit Cards, my experience with iTunes Music Store has been limited to just doing searches and having a look around. Needless to say though, I'm really...

Triple J/Noise Remix Competittion - Remix Silverchair, The Waifs....

Just thought this might be of interest to some people here.

Australian radio station Triple J and Noise are hosting a Remix competition. Ausralian bands Silverchair, The Waifs and Downsyde have...

Re: Record at 24/48?

Dither from 24bit to 16bit on bounce to disk? If you want your music on CD, yes. It's probably always a good idea to keep a 24 bit backup, and of course keep the mixdown 24 bit so whoever's mastering...

Re: best way to get great drum sounds on a cheap budget??????

As some people have mentioned before, you need to have a good room to record in. Most people don't have such a room in their homes, so perhaps it would be worthwhile booking into a (cheap) studio or...

Re: Record at 24/48?

>>Why do people on this forum recommend against recording at 24/48?

Because unless you listen to DATs all day you're mix will eventually end up on CD and they only do 44.1KHz. That means you're...

Re: Will 5400 RPM firewire work?

It'd work, but not very well... less tracks basically, and more glitching.

Re: New mix on 002

Yeah, I felt that there wasn't enough differentiation between the verses and the choruses in terms of vocal timbre. A single harmony a 3rd or so higher (a la System Of A Down) usually works well,...

Re: New mix on 002

Sounds great, only thing I can think of is that the vocals in the chorus could do with an extra harmony, some doubling, or something just to give it a little more "lift".

But other than that,...

Re: Question-Mbox/001 w/ New Powerbook G4 12"

I actually walked into an AppleStore a few days ago and they had an Mbox hooked up to a Powerbook G4 12" running PT6. Ran very well indeed.

The only thing you'll have to consider is that you will...

Re: surround plug in required?

LE doesn't support the Surround panner TDM/HD systems have. You can 'fake it' by using aux busses and a lot of level/pan automation but it's a pain in the arse if you want to do anything beyond...

Re: A longer cord on the computer keyboard

Wireless keyboards are cool BUT - be warned, they suck through batteries like you wouldn't believe.

I have a Logitech Cordless Elite Keyboard and Mouseman Wheel mouse. The mouse sucks through a...

Re: OS X 10.2.5

Have been running X.2.5 for 24 hours no problems. In fact, my system seems to be that little bit snappier. [bonus!]

Carl Z, believe me, all these updates are a good thing. OSX is still very new...

Re: Surround encoding

AC3 and DTS audio files are still "stereo" files, in that they have 2 channels, not 6 as "5.1" might have you believe. The 6 discrete channels are "matrixed" by encoding all 6 channels into 2 over a...

Re: OT: My First Mix In The Box

I love it! Why doesn't anyone make feel good rock and roll anymore? (or, rather, why don't we ever hear about it?).

I'd agree that the snare's probably a little strong in the verse, but in the...

Re: Hi Digi, Can I upgrade to 10.2.5 now?

I don't know, I thought 1969 was a pretty good year.

Let's do the time warp again....

Re: cue mix

Same way you'd do it on an analog board.

If you want to set up two customised cue mixes, then you'd use 2 auxilary channels, taking the required feeds off the various tracks, then route those two...

Re: How long to mix?

I think the answer to this question is "however long it takes, or until the band stops paying." I've seen bands record and mix an album in a day with good results. On the flipside, Mutt Lange spent 4...
