I don't think it is unrelated at all. Thanks for chiming in. The whole reason I kept the HDIO 16X16 is so I could do exactly what you are doing for hardware inserts as it was so good at handling...

Thank you for the response which has enabled me to fix my problem. I was on 18.3.0.227 which was not the latest version. I have confirmed that I am now able to save layouts. Wonderful.
