Technically, you should be right. There is a FireWire family driver for the 003 that is supported under Mavericks. Pro Tools 11 will be the last version that officially supports the 003.

Can you take a look at Activity Monitor under the CPU tab and see what's taking up your CPU cycles? See what 'kernel_task' is up to.
