Its because the software is not tested to run on hardware that is upside down. We dont seem to have those problems north of the equator.

I could be mistaken about the 001 but I am almost posative that the 001 is capable of 18 just like the 002. It requires both adat and spdif though.

The resulting boost could have been from any of a number of other factors. If you where running a clean install on your 64 bit xp then it very well could have been from not having as much software...
