Re: Software to generate LTC?

The only one I've heard of is Nuendo, where they have a plug-in as a TC generator, and you just assign an output - an expensive way to do it.

video capture

I'm running a separate G4 parallel to my PT rig, and want to use Gallery's V-VTR. Would like to future-proof it by using a solid firewire capture/playback card/module. This would playback on a...

Re: Nearfield Monitors - A Survey

All you NS-10 users, heads up! Yamaha stopped production of these in April, so buy now. Parts will be available for a year or so, but the supplier of the woofer material (the lovely white flammable...

Re: Hot Setup for Video & G4 & Mix+?

Coco, look into Gallery's V VTR. You have to have a separate Mac, but it's pretty much invisible to PT (separate Mac). I'm curious about a firewire video capture/PB card to work with that system, but...

Re: Can USD be used as a clock for 888, even if the serial cable is NOT hooked up?

You got lucky. The USD can be a clock source for 888s, but not connected to the Mac can lead to frame rate/ SR issues and absolute sync is wobbly. Make sure you have serial connected from the PT...

Re: post production

Good questions. LA PP studios charge from $500-600hr, Chicago around $650, NYC even more. It's all up to your clients' budget.
Media is what YOU specify. I take OMFs from video post houses on 2gig...

Re: Monitoring 888/24 to Active Speakers

Also, for you surround neophytes, Martinsound makes the MultiMAX monitor controller, and Studio Technologies makes units between Martinsound & Furman.

Re: ooooops! Best Reverb??

True. But if we're talking (near) absolute "quality" comparison, it doesn't enter into it. As far as "value" goes, p-is win BIG. But it's not about quantity, it's about quality.
I mean, how many...

Re: LCD monitors w/VGA and Composite input?

Also, try here to find alternative LCD (and other) monitors. The HPs and IBMs can be had in BLACK - very stealth.

Re: LCD monitors w/VGA and Composite input?

By all means, let us know how it works. I am putting together a room with a DMX console/5.1/ and looking at 2 18.1 LCD monitors with dual inputs, so I can switch from PT to console to video PB to...

Re: ooooops! Best Reverb??

Yardstick will make you very happy, even has a QRS mode, and is the most natural-sounding 'verb I've heard, and the only one I HAVEN'T heard is the new Yamaha sampling reverb. Sony 777 very good too,...

Re: $1000 for a vocal mic

See? Now you've gone and done it! Sure, I've got a U-195, but now EVERYONE is going to get one. Now I'll have to go back to taping the bodies of the mics, clients and visiting engineers don't know...

Re: How to get tape sound on live kit Kick & Snare recording - the answer

If you have time (or an assistant!), go buy some chickenwire at the local
Home Depot and build a "tunnel" as long as you can fit in your tracking room - but in 3 or 4 foot sections. Then throw...

Re: What is Pro Tools going to do?

Let me finish the argument here. PTools is a TDM based system, with all processing (save RTAS)and mixing done on DSP chips. Around 83samples worth of latency. How does SS fare in the latency dept.?...

Re: PLUG-INS

you mean I could've read a BOOK to learn all this stuff??? I thought it was an Equimetric Paralyzer, and it stunned listeners equally, no matter what age, race, or sex. It's a do-over for me.

Re: How are the new 733 MHz Macs working?

Is it me, or do (TDM)plug-ins only run on mix/farm card DSP chips, so RAM really has nothing to do with p-i - sure, RTAS uses the processor, but you're going to run out of processor before you run...

Re: 48k/24 session to 44.1k/16: Masterlink, TC Finalizer, or BTD?

Z-Systems and Lucid make very nice 24bit sample rate converters, but ANY time you SRC a file/track, you lose. Depending on what converters you can rent, it's almost as good to go D/A, maybe thru a...

Re: ooooops! Best Reverb??

They are NOT! There is no Lexicon DSP card (that I know of) coming down the road, but the TC card looks nice...but not for TDM.

Re: ooooops! Best Reverb??

OK,would you pay $1500 for a DSP card from Lexicon that had a 480, a PCM 91,81, and 70 algos on it? How about a TC card that had 4 M3000s on it? These types of things are coming fast, it's just a...
