Re: External Drives ?

Thanks All.

I'd looked at Glyph and know they have a great reputation, but they also cost about 4x other options. Some nice features, but for the $389 a 250gb 050Q costs I can put 4 of the...

External Drives ?

I know this has been discussed (many times) before, but I couldn't find it in my searches. I am assuming that firewire is still preferable over USB2 for external drives? Has anyone tried external...

Re: Bliss, Pure Unadulterated Bliss

Good choice. Stay far away from the TrueLife display. I'm hoping the 3M stuff comes tomorrow and works otherwise this machine is going back the end of this week. It's useless if you can't see the...

Re: Bliss, Pure Unadulterated Bliss

I've got the WUXGA truelife. It may just take some getting used to. I've ordered some 3M anti-glare/privacy material to try though. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Bliss, Pure Unadulterated Bliss

Thanks. I got my 1705 today (went for the 2gb 633 RAM, 7200 drive). I haven't yet built a partitition for PT, but do have Vegas (Sony video editor) running and it does scream. MAJOR PROBLEM...

Re: SATA drives

From a mechanical (and thus noise) standpoint SATA has no bearing on things. The one semi-exception to this would be if your PSU isn't providing adequate power (thus the recommendation to use the...

E1705 owners - PCMCIA Slot ?

There was no mention of a PCMCIA slot in any of the online verbage, but there appears to be one in the pics. Two calls to Dell gave me conflicting responses - YES, it has a PCMCIA slot, and NO, it...

Re: Do you want PDC: Fill the Feature Request Form

Sergievsky, haven't you read Digi's marketing material. You don't do serious work on PTLE. If you're doing serious work you purchase HD, if you are just toying around with a few thousand bucks you...

Re: The Vet eats Crow. . . Persistance pays off

Tom's hardware's review of the Duo Core chips includes a brief discussion on shared vs non-shared video. Their recommendation is to go with the DDR2 667 when shared video memory is used as the video...

M-Powered work with onboard audio output ?

Does PTMP work with the onboard audio output on ibooks and powerbooks? I know that LE does not, but I've received varying answers regarding PTMP. Purpose is for students to be able to use it with...

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

DJ, I was referring to technical issues for Digi to make these capabilities available (replying to Slim's assertions that it would be alot of work for digi to do so). PTLE and PTMP are identical...

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

From a technical standpoint there is no co-existence issue, it's purely a marketing decision. A single copy of PT can support multiple drivers and worst case is they'd need to update their coreaudio...

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

Supporting something like coreaudio requires development of a driver (less than 1/10 of 1% of the typical code base), not the entire software. Protools already supports multiple drivers including...

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

I really dislike mixing with ears and I don't know that it will ever equal or better mixing in a well designed control room (or perhaps even just a living room w/ good speakers), but it is doable and...

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

This is really amazingly confusing. How can a company that makes such good software have such screwed up marketing?

Regarding not running without hardware... 3 or more years ago that wouldn't...

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

The idea would be to edit using IEM's from the laptops earphone port. You ain't gonna do alot of intricate level setting or eq'ing, but I can do alot of cut&paste as well as critique concert tracks....

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

According to the information on the digi site, including their comparison chart of LE vs MP, MP does not include support for control surfaces while LE does. I am pretty certain MP WILL run as long...

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

OK, if I pay $800 for a Firewire 1814 and M-Powered I CAN run it seperately on my laptop, but if I pay $400 more for a 002R with PTLE I CAN'T run it seperately?

From a software standpoint I...

Re: Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

Ouch! Thanks though. I like protools, but I don't want to lug a big piece of hardware around with my laptop just to make it work (and this would be a real pain on a plane) and I ain't too thrilled...

Running LE without 002r hardware attached ?

I've searched and have been unable to find this. How do I get protools to run without the hardware attached? The 002r is in a double-wide rack case, but we want to listen/edit each nights recording...
