I'd suspect the problem is either with the driver for your firewire 814 or with the interface itself. I have an MPC 3000 and a MOTU Midi Time Piece and haven't had a problem getting the MPC to sync...

If you want to see how your project mix really works, try it with Logic Pro 8. I was absolutely amazed when I did. If you can deal with Logic's audio editing capabilites, it might be worth a look....
