Re: I have no more music in me

Seemingly insignificant things can sometimes spark an inferno of inspiration (80/20 rule). Change something, anything!

Re: Anyone Use FMR RNC compressor with Mbox?

Not with the Mbox but I do have a several RNCs that I use on guitars and sometimes vocals. Ugly looking little beasts unless you rack them up in the Funk Logic rigs or something similar but they do a...

Re: Best mic pres w/spidif out,$600 and below, plea

Both - I think the Eureka is one of the best general purpose preamps in that price range. Very versatile and musical. I've used it with condensers and dynamics, even an AEA R84 ribbon which requires...

Re: Battery 3

It appears that most of the problems with battery 3 are happening on dual core machines. Hopefully NI will address that soon but considering the glacial pace at which they fixed Battery 2 bugs I...

Re: Best mic pres w/spidif out,$600 and below, plea

I second what albee1952 said, you're probably not going to do much better than the digi preamps if you need 2 channels and on board converters in that price range. I have the Presonus Eureka that...

Re: Looking at pre-amps, NEED OPINIONS!

Just built a set of SCA J99 Jensen Twin Servo clones. Two channels, chasis and power supply under $1k for kits or a few hundred more prebuilt. Solid state but very pristine for vocals and acoustic...

Re: Putting Yamaha Motif 6 data into ProTools?????

My suggestion would be to save the patterns as standard midi files and import them into Pro Tools. You can then trigger the Motif's voices and samples from the midi tracks in Pro Tools and record...

Re: Midi configuration yamah motif voice editor

I've often used the multi editor and occasionally the voice editor for the Motif rack without any trouble. I'll try to duplicate your problem and see if I can help but I'm not exactly sure what you...

Re: how to get PT send start command at any positi

I'm not very familiar with the RX11 but I know it has various modes for receiving external midi. It's possible that the RX11 is not correctly interpreting the midi data. I say that because I've been...

Re: Ivory - Streaming from an external HD

I've been using a Micronet USB drive for that purpose without any problems. I don't usually run Ivory on the same box as PT but as long as you're using the 002 via firewire I don't see why the USB...

Re: Battery 2 ?????????

NI released a patch for the RTAS multi out problem in February. It's available in the protected downloads section of the NI web site. As spkguitar mentioned you'll still have to upgrade your Pro...

This is always such a relevant topic I thought I'd mention this possible alternative for anyone who doesn't already know about it. I've recently started playing with the FX Teleport...

Re: Comparing Sample Rates

Hi Jon,

No, I was suggesting that he record the same source through his converters into seperate sessions at different resolutions. I assume what he's really interested in is the difference...

Re: Comparing Sample Rates

Sure, a good vinyl recording played on a good table would be great. The goal is to start with the best source possible while maintaining consistency. I suggested a pre-recorded source for that reason...

Re: Comparing Sample Rates

Greetz DJ Insomaniac,

There is a difference between 16/44.1 and 24/96 to be sure but depending on the source material and other factors like the quality of the playback system, dithering method,...

Re: 7.0 Instrument tracks question

You don't necessarily have to commit midi instruments to audio until you do a final mix to stereo. Instrument tracks give you the flexibility to route and process midi instrument (VSTi) outputs much...

Re: Alittle Help with vocals

You can certainly get some respectable results with what you have. If you do a search for vocal recording technique on the DUC or Google you'll find a ton of related material. IMHO upgrading...

Regarding how suitable...

Re: safe mixing levels

Also agree with the low to mid 80's level with brief excursions up and down to make sure things don't change too much in either case.

Re: Master Bus Processing and sub mixes

Dave,

I don't think you're nuts at all. It sounds like you're just squeezing as much as you can out of what you have. The method you're using isn't ideal but that doesn't mean you can't get good...

Jagg76,

You're question should probably have been posted in the Tips & Technique forum. As a matter of fact this whole thread should probably have been there but having noted that:

I did a...

Re: Master Bus Processing and sub mixes

After reading the post from daeron80 it occurred to me that I may have misunderstood what you were doing. If you're bouncing all of your tracks each time you submix then much of what I was talking...

Re: Master Bus Processing and sub mixes

Dave,

You're absolutely right when you say that it comes down to what sounds best. The ears are the ultimate judge. Of course you're also correct about compounding the master buss treatments by...
