This is an imac computer and speed may be an issue but obviously I'd rather not replace the computer unless necessary. I've added ram once. I'll check to see if there is any more room to increase...

Well, it looks like the problem was in the 3 plugins. Just basic EQ and reverb that came with Protools 9. It has recorded with them in the past. I also reduced the DAE playback buffer from level 4...
