I do test mine (at regex101)

previously you needed to end with a pipe or it would throw an error, maybe it was actually sloppier before, but I'll try that out tomorrow

It's not the routing-- I can play in from the controller and get sound out of Instrument plugins and even during record I can play in from the controller and get notes but anything in a clip region...

yeah so you're actually onto something with the color palette, timeline brightness inverts the piano roll depending on which side of 50 you're on

hmm that trick did not work for me, still inverted when I select two MIDI tracks

I'm not sure exactly when this happened, I don't recall it being like this ever except with certain colors but at least in 2021.6 the dark keys on the piano roll are light/colored in the background...
