fwiw the only way I could get the Carbon running reliably on my hackintosh was with a flashed titan ridge and the double Apple adapters.

I had exactly the same problem with this card with my hackintosh and gave up after wasting two days of my life trying to get it to work on Catalina and Big Sur.

just a quick follow-up:

I received my Carbon yesterday and hooked it up to my trusty MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2013) with 4GB RAM running Catalina 10.15.7 with an Apple Thunderbolt to ethernet...

gotcha, thanks for the clarification.
I misunderstood and thought you were talking about the fan on the Carbon spinning up and making noise, but you were describing the fan on the Macbook.

Wow Dominic, thank you so much for your testing, those are good results and it sounds rather assuring!

I wonder if the fan noise is directly related to the dsp usage on the DSP..

ok, interesting, thanks for giving it a shot though!
I will at some point get a new macbook but really want to wait till end of the year for the 14" models to come out. Will need to do some location...

I am afraid that that model will not run Catalina though, without trickery... but thanks anyways!!

yes I've seen the minimum specs..
this is just for using ProTools as a tape machine, no plugins whatsoever.
I was able to do this 15 years ago on a 400MHz Powerbook G4...

sorry to hijack, has anyone had success with Carbon on older (mid 2013) Macbook Air with Catalina?
this would only be for location/live recording, mixing is done on a desktop with HDX..
