Re: RAM leak still there (Protools running low on memory error)?

My celebration was short-lived. I have tried everything I know of and read here. Changed allocation from "all available", trashed prefs, restarted, zapped PRAM, launched from icon... I'm down to...

Re: RAM leak still there (Protools running low on memory error)?

I ran into this last night. I was digitizing some vinyl and had several of the waveforms up at once in the edit window. I started getting that error msg and other weirdness, and I (stupidly, in...

This has gotta be simple...

... but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it.

I've got a bunch of tracks recorded, mostly all starting from the countoff of the click track, but there's one that's the second half of...

Re: \"GROUPS\" question

Never mind. When tracks are grouped, anything you do to one, does it to them all. That's great, now I can proceed, but nowhere do any of my references say that this is the way it works. Oh well,...

\"GROUPS\" question

I have a session with drums on 5 tracks. I want to automate the dynamics of the whole kit together, so I want to group the drum tracks. I consulted the manual on how to group tracks, no problem;...

Question on track breaks

I've got a live recording of a 75 minute set transferred from minidisk that I want to put on a CD broken into tracks. Is there an easy way to put track breaks in a long region so that when you...

Re: Using an ADAT as a converter

Yes, that is exactly what I am doing. As Digi sez, make sure that your sampling rate matches your session, and see that your ADAT is set to sync to the PT clock.

Re: Simple mic setup for drums.

I used 5 mics on my last project and I got a pretty good drum sound. I used a pair of LDC mics about 6 feet apart over the drummer's shoulders, equidistant from the center of the snare drum head. I...

Re: Using an ADAT as a converter

You can certainly use an ADAT unit to add 8 tracks to a PTLE/digi001 setup; I am set up that way right now. It doesn't have to have a tape in it.

Re: Pro Tools 9014 error of annoying goodness

Not all Macs are created equal. You'll want to check Digi's compatability pages to see if PT will run on that specific Mac. That OSX runs is a separate issue.

Re: No signal through right channel in headphones.

You probably have done this, but I always check the easy stuff first. Have you verified that the 'phones will give you both channels when plugged into some other source, even when you jostle the...

Re: can\'t change song tempo after recorded??!!

Well, I guess the short answer is yes, you are crazy if you think that a simple mouse click or two can smoothly and effortlessly (and for free) speed up an analog recording without changing the...

Re: Bunch of newbie questions...

FWIW, I use an analog board in conjunction with my ProTools setup, and I don't really think it hurts the sound much if at all for my purposes; the added signal path options and access to outboard...

Re: MIDI basics - help a newbie!

You'll need to read up on MIDI modes: MONO, OMNI, and POLY. It's been a while since I dealt with them, but I do remember that it's not intuitive. In one of these modes, channel numbers are ignored...

Re: Missing ilok key

There's one more - 'given to your best bud along with copies of all the software and then claimed as stolen', which is the one that iLok is most worried about and which is, unfortunately, the most...

Re: Missing ilok key

To solve this dilemma, it would only take a method for iLok to be able to "kill" the lost key. I assume that every key has a unique address.

Maybe a satellite receiver embedded in the hardware...

Re: Help with peaking

Never drive it into the red; there is no soft clipping in digital. The "pocket" in a digital signal is cooler than in analog; although a little bit of peaking may be inaudible, it's best to never see...

Re: System sound weirdness Mac OSX

I haven't tried the headphone output yet because the computer is in a place where it's sort of a pain to get to the back of it, but I'd put money on the prob being there as well. Another Point Of...

Re: Headroom

Not really. You have to cut your signal in half from what is hitting the peak to lose just 1 bit of resolution, i.e., to make the MSB (most significant bit) always zero.

It sounds like you are...

System sound weirdness Mac OSX

I have a 466 MHz Digital Audio Mac, running MacOS 9.2.1. It is mostly a ProTools machine; I am running PTLE 5 with a digi 001 interface, and it all runs fine.

I acquired a LaCie 120 GB FireWire...

Re: Headroom

You got a response the first time, and everyone is saying more or less the same thing. The simple answer is that the threshold for lighting a peak light varies from system to system - not on the...

Re: Headroom

I didn't dodge anything. Maybe you sent something into the red and didn't hear the clip, I dunno, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. Maybe a few successive FFFF's (or FFFFFF's if you're 24 bit)...
