Re: Anybody using Auto Tune 4 on 6.0.2?

For tuning and wav editing of monophonic wav's, I have found Melodyne to be far superior to AutoTune.

Not a shill, long time user here. Just really...

Re: Does Normalizing alter audio quality?

Normalizing just brings the highest level up to around 0 db. Set correctly it shouldn't alter the sound. Just make it louder.

Re: mixing,mastering question?

To get the sound you want you need to do bandpasses on the low end of other instruments like guitar and keyboards.

The guitar or keys may not sound as strong by itself with the low end cut off...

Re: why record 24-bit?

Well, from reading the DUC over the years, 24 bit is almost like a religion. You got to have faith. Believe in the healing bits or something. There is no real fact to support it, since you end up...

Re: why record 24-bit?

It all ends up 16 bit anyway in the present day. So the comparison is really between 2 different forms of 16 bit. Original vs. dithered. Very slim difference, if any.

And the fact is, that...

Re: why record 24-bit?

Well, as I said earlier. And now has been confirmed. For regular old rock and roll, 16 bit works just as good as 24 bit. And 16 bit is easier. And takes up less space.

As far as the new point...

Re: why record 24-bit?

I assume it was both. The study did not tell listeners which was 16 or which was 24. Nobody could tell by listening. People picked the 16 for 24 and the 24 for 16 as much as anything. The...

Re: why record 24-bit?

I got into a discussion on my board a while back where a professor brought a study from a university that said that the difference between 16 bit and dithered from 24 down to 16 bit was imaginary. ...

Well, when you got a better mousetrap, the world gotta know, Bazzle.

But anyhow, ProTools and the associated tools we have discussed here for years are all about getting the "Pro" sound. I got...

Re: What do you use for mastering?

FreeFilter is an excellent tool for getting close to a professional EQ curve on your recording. Normally it can get you 80% there. The curves must be modified though. No two recordings are the...

Re: Cracks in the recording

Something may be causing clipping. Watch the levels on the master fader as you add tracks.

Re: copywrite questions

Why the need to do MP3's in the first place?? Just send in 3 or 4 CDs as a compilation.

What's that cost to burn 4 CD's?? 2 bucks??

Re: copywrite questions

There are a variety of way to demonstrate that you wrote the song. Mailing it to yourself.
Or the new way. Put your song on the Weed system (http://www.weedtunes.com/index.php/a/av/artist/74) with...

Re: Heard Waves IR-1 yet?

Nope. I like TrueVerb and RVerb just fine though. $600.00 is a nice chunk a change.

Surely, it can be described.

Re: How Does My Mastering Compare to Yours

Well, microhertz was me grasping for a descriptive term. Didn't do any actual calculations.

Anyhow, digital allows for precision beyond analogue, or at least that is my observation of it. And...

Re: How Does My Mastering Compare to Yours

Digital is about precision, John. Analogue is not precise. Digital is down to the microhertz.

With digital precision you can get the loudness and keep the sound. I know, I do it myself.

I...

Re: Wavelab for mastering?

1. If one uses a wrapper that allows all the VST and DX plugins to be used in ProTools, the only other advantage would be that of the Wavelab interface itself. Which is designed for stereo files...

Re: Wavelab for mastering?

Wavelab allows you to use VST and DX plugins. Which cover certain areas that RTAS presently does not. In addition, Wavelab is setup for mastering of stereo wav files which makes it easier in many...

Re: How Does My Mastering Compare to Yours

I hear this a lot but I don't think this is the case. Loudness can sound great. It just takes more attention to detail. The good thing about the new digital world of mastering is that one can attend...

Re: Digi001 on WEED beats the pros

All I am saying to everybody is this. You can get a Pro sound with a DIGI 001. If you know what you're doing. The DIGI 001 is good enough. You don't need anything else.

We did this in an old Stockyard building that was for rent cheap. Ceilings were about 20 feet high. They eventually sold it and moved us out. But a lot of the sound comes from the mastering on the...

Re: Digi001 on WEED beats the pros

Re: Digi001 on WEED beats the pros

Well, my Digi 001 is the old Win98 model. The new XP model may not get as good a sound.

I would upgrade. But I'm afraid to.
