Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hi there,
I haven't posted anything around here in a while. Here's a little something I'm working on. I'm very interested in people's comments on the mix. Still checking out my new monitoring setup. http://www.controlnet.com/~makeMusic/Orion s_Belt.mp3 More info in the spirit of fair disclosure. I want people to understand that none of the sounds here are me playing. I am practicing this song, but I ain't at this level yet! This song is a commercially available MIDI sequence. My interest in the sequence was as a test for my GigaStudio/PTLE setup and a new hard drive I put in. All three MIDI instrument tracks are captured via 3 aux tracks and mixed in PTLE with Waves plugins live. Nothing was recorded. This uses the full 96 voices in my version of GigaStudio, and uses commercially available piano, bass and drum GigaSampler libraries. I posted this here as I see a lot of questions coming from people around here about GigaSampler. It's a great tool. Cheers, Mark |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Damn there's some good music around here.
Dr. John - Get Up! - Very cool. I like the whole vocal/vocal/guitar thing at about 3:20 especially. You might think about reposting at a bit higher bit rate. I think 128kbs might not be the best for the sound. Vegadark - Broken, Broken, Broken - The vocoder stuff is very cool. I like how you did that. It fits well. The Legendary Mr. Howell - Shut Up Baby - OK, I will, it's excellent. Nothing more needs to be said. Princeton - I don't use Real Audio so I couldn't listen. Any chance you might to an mp3? Milco - Morning - Cool feel. Keep going. Do some more. mix2much - Dance My Way - She's got a good feel, doesn't she? I like her voice. A bit like a female Dave Matthews to me. To me the mix seems a little squashed, but certainly not bad. 8mmoverdose - The Truth - Dynamite man. Very good stuff. Very good. The vocals are just perfect to me. The whole sound is just perfectly thick. It's like it grabs you and just won't let go. Did you do all the tracking? What vocal mic and preamp for her lead vocal/talking part? What a pleasurable 40 minutes that was. Cheers, Mark |

Mark, really great sounding Piano.Mix sounds solid to me except that I couldn't here much bass or kick probably because I'm listening on a cheesy laptop at work right now.Nice jazz tune and great piano playing as well .One day I,m gonna learn some jazz chops and trade in my old rock licks. Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Mark!
Reposting at a higher rate won't help streaming....it's just good for cds at mp3.com. Streaming is still done at 128. Glad you like our work. Take care! Dr. John |

Mark!
Your mp3 via quicktime causes netscape to crash on my computer....what a bummer! Maybe next time! Dr. John |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Dr. John,
That is a drag. Possibly you might just download it (right click/save) and try it in Sound Forge or Wavelab, if you have those, or convert it to wave and load it into PTLE. If you're up for loading another free mp3 player, you can always try Music Match, which is what I used to make the mp3. I'll look at making an mp3 with another tool I've got. Cheers, Mark |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Stu,
Thanks for taking a listen. I'm not sure if by 'bass' you mean bass guitar or bass drum. It should be piano left, bass guitar right, drums center. If bass guitar is light, then I'm VERY interested in that as I'm monitoring a new way and still working on making sure what I hear is what you hear. Does it need more bass guitar? When you get a chance to listen elsewhere, let me know if the overall mix was overly bright. If you'd heard and snare or kick I'd be a bit scared as I used only cymbals in this tune. It just seemed to fit. I would like to do a complete drumset one day soon, but so far this is what I have. Cheers, Mark Quote:
