bi0force1 - i just checked out 'girl of my dreams version 2'.

its so freakin' raw, its great. i mean, i loved it. and the embeleshments (extra/lead guitar tracks) didn't spoil that feel at all, like they sometimes can.

i don't know how you'd rap to that particular tempo - you'd either have to go really really fast or really slow (basically, in time or double-time).

a lot of rap songs fall around the 90beats/minute mark. but good luck. if i can be of any assistance, let me know.

okay, I don't mean to sound **needy**, but I noticed when I post things, I get very little feedback. Is it a lack of personality, or is soundclick.com a headache to download things from?

GENE - Canyon was cool. What synth are you using with that portamento effect? Sounds like a real analog. A very 3-D track.

DDP - I liked 'Carpenter.' Great drums going on there. Question, are you in that photo on the first page of your site. Thats quite a crowd. Looks like fun. I'm curious what type of gig it was (i.e., festival or something.)

FABPAB - Liked yours, too. Very crisp, able playing. Great acoustic intro, by the way. Question, why is it called 'drunk'? What guitars are you using?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hey.. thanks for listening! hmm were do i start... it was recorded in a small studio with PT mix Hardware.. and mixed on a my 001...
I used crappy 80 quid acustic guitar and a 200 quid Peavey preditor through a Line 6 POD. (Love it and will get the XT sum point)
Err... Bass is just DI-ed...
thanx again

BP- usually i notice that theres not alot of responses to people w/ mp3.com pages (or one similar to them) cause people dont like typing in all thier info (state,city,addy,ect...) over and over again.

i personally dont sign up to hear the music. ben (capt. pants) has an mp3 page that im sick of going to so i just have him send me his songs via instant messenger.

if you know how to do it, i suggest putting your songs on a free website like angelfire or geocities they have enough room on a free page to hold 4 or 5 songs w/o wanting to charge you for the space.

sorry to be a pain in the ass about this but i hate getting the 90 email that get sent to me when i sign up for crap on other websites.

badperson,
I listened to 'Picture'(finally, and I apologize). Interesting concept you've got going on there... I like the slide part you're doing, and how you've placed it. Nice job.

Thanks, Roy

Aussie169 thanks for the reply to http://www.sircuss.com/shangrila.htm

The mic I'm using is a Neumann TLM 103 Diaphram mic through the digi 001 mic input 1. I think it's a good mic, maybe I'm not eqing or recording the vocals optimumly?
What About the mix being a bit muddy and the guitars needing eq to let the mix breathe: Do you think the bass is too bassy and needs to be lower (volume) and a little more trebley to define it and the rhythm guitars a bit more defined instead of muddy? Or do you mean the trebly lead? Also there is an acoustic guitar which is up in the mix but hard to hear. That might be muddying it too.
I appreciate the linput tremendously!
Anyone else?

Aussie169 - All Alone - I see what you mean by letting the mix breathe. Nice acoustic underneath, sweet backing vocals, nice military drums during the ending. "Zappa Tune" sounds like Jazz meets Cream. Nice quiet middle.

Neatguys - what's a J station? Wow, it hits my brain in the exact right place.

Roy - Burn - Very original down and dirty sound. Sounds like you had a lot of fun creating it, love the engine motif, it definately moves. She a little wicked reminds me of something that could have been in "Toys" and both songs have a little nod to Oingo Boingo Are they both all midi?

Gene - Love the layering of guitars on Dreams and the fiddle to crunch guitar on Snowfall.

da BaSsTaRd - nice midi b-day tune, check ya back for another one on the 25th.

fabpab - A bit progressive/heavier than I usually like. But I did enjoy most of Pain is Joy more than drunk, probably cause there's vocals. Really nice production. Voice has a touch of Bowie to it, but sound is decidedly darker.

Tomy DeClerque - How do you get that effect on vocals (I'm pretty novice). I like it, although my tastes in dance are usually less acidy on the drums.

WOW, if you're using TLM103 you should be getting a much more open sound than you are.
OK, I'm now guessing that your main problem is your monitoring setup. That would also explain the muddy mix. What are you using for monitors? I'm guessing that they are a bit too bright and you are pulling highs out to compensate?
How much adjusting of EQ are you doing to get it to sound "right" in your speakers? You really shouldn't have to do much at all. And remeber that when you do EQ, subtractive is better than adding.
A good test is to rip a track off a commercial CD that you know well, import it into ProTools and see how it sounds in your recording environment. And that is how your mixes need to sound.

There is one very reasonably priced piece of equipment I bought for my 001. It's a dual mic preamp with digital outs, and the ADA converters are heaps better than in the DIGI. It immediately opened up the top end of my recordings. I try to track everything I can through it. It's the Mindprint DI-Port. Check it out, it's well worth its small price.
