Fast Track c400 drivers are crashing my computer

When I start up my computer, Fast Track c400 is plugged in and I boot up fine. I don't seem to have any audio though. So I fire up Cubase and my computer stops and goes to this blue screen that tells me there is a driver error and to uninstall any new drivers. I've gone through the uninstalling and reinstalling. This problem is the c400 drivers. My system is windows 7 64. I did download the drivers for win7 64, but looking at the drivers in my system for c400, they're installed in my 'system32' folder. There are four drivers installed:

drmk.sys
ksthunk.sys
MAudioFast TrackC400.sys
portcls.sys

Should I put them in the system64 folder?

Under M-Audio properties/Details: property says Device description. Should I set that?

Windows has determined the drivers are up to date.

The Location, under properties is: 0000.001d.0000.001.001.000.000.000.000

Is this normal?

Oh this is interesting. I found in my system32 folder MaudioFastTrackC400_DFU.sys That is not listed as a driver. Should I delete it?

Currently I have my system set to have this M Audio as my default playback and recording device. But it doesn't change my problem either way.

PLEASE HELP!

Maybe it has something to do with Windows configuring C++ 2005 every time I install the drivers?

I'm trying a bunch of things to fix this problem. The error message I get is 'System Service Exception' blue screen.

Another thing I've discovered: If I boot up and then reboot, it all works fine. So I'm guessing that the first boot up, is not connecting the c400. Is there a way to get that into the 'start up' programs list? Do you think that would help?

Sandra report really is the first step

But I wouldn't delete anything - PT still is a 32 bit app and therefore (assuming) so are the drivers

What does ur device manager say ? Are those same drivers listed in the device manager?

Have u ran all the other optimizations?

Can u configure the fast track in the control panel ?

And if so - try to setup the audio properties on ur main sound card to output to the fast track

Obviously this is still dependent on the status of the device manager - if it is ok oor not

Re: Fast Track c400 drivers are crashing my computer

Thank you so much for responding.

I do have c400 set to my default in and output, through Control Panel. Device Manager has c400 DFU listed but has a triangle sign with '!' in it. I click on it and it says under divice status "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Device Manager, Sound Video and Game Controller: has the c400 listed as working fine.

In the C400 control panel, it says at the bottom left: Hardware Connected.

When I boot up the computer the lights come on the c400. If I shut down computer and let it sit off for a while and boot it back on, still the same problem. If I boot it up and them restart it, everything works fine. That leads me to believe that my computer is starting up faster than the c400 has time to configure it's self. It would seem that it needs to be on while the computer is starting up, so that the computer can realize it's there and activate the drivers.

I'm going to look at doing a Sandra Report now.

Let me clarify the location of the first Device Manager I mentioned; it's under USB

Re: Fast Track c400 drivers are crashing my computer

I turns out that the c400DFU I was referring to in my Device Manager was having that problem because I deleted that driver. I've reinstalled and that part of the Device Manager is working fine now.

So there doesn't seem to be a difference in drivers working in my first boot up (when it doesn't recognize c400) and the second boot (when it does recognize c400).

I'm really bummed about this :(

Re: Fast Track c400 drivers are crashing my computer

Maybe this will help; I've noticed that in Device Manager, there are two places that have c400 recognized. One in the USB and the other in Sound Video game and controller. The one in USB is c400DFU and only has that driver. In the Sound and Video game section, it has c400 listed and in that has four drivers.

This is all while I'm in the first boot, the non-operational audio phase. I'll check after a restart right now.

Re: Fast Track c400 drivers are crashing my computer

It's the same after a restart, but c400 works fine. Also, my computer doesn't just crash, it waits until I start up Cubase.

YYR123 12-27-2012 07:31 PM

Well u could start cubase w/o the interface connected - see where that gets u ?

As far as sound they the fast trk - I have no idea b/c I don't own one- I know that if u want to run PT w/o an interface u have to install AISO to get sound - since u don't run PT it doesn't really apply to u (so it would seem)

Maybe try over on the maudio forum - since it is one of their products
