iLOK broken, transfer license to good iLok question

Hi!

As a Avid/Sibelius endorser, I have Pro Tools HD 10.2 on one old iLok. This iLok just broke down and is non-operational.

I also have Pro Tools 9 on a new iLok as a fresh install with my new mBOX3.

What's the most cost-effective and easy way to get my Pro Tools HD 10 licenses on my new iLok, keeping in mind that my computer does not recognize the broken iLok and therefore, cannot or transfer the license to make it work? Help!

Do I do a fresh install of Pro Tools HD 10.2 and then hopefully, have my new iLok pick it up and recognize it?

Jay

Any thoughts how to fix this issue immediately? All I want to do is get my Pro Tools HD 10 licenses to work with my new MBox3 and new iLok. Thanks!

This has been discussed on this forum ad-nauseum, you can find all those past discussions using the forum search.

Or from the knowledgebase -- http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...p;DocType=1079 or from iLok http://www.ilok.com/ilok-rma.html

If you have business critical needs for an iLok you may want to look at ZDT insurance in future.

Posting here won't accelerate anything, you need to follow the steps documented in the links above.

If this is a special deal and somebody at Avid comped you a licenses you may need to contact them directly if here are any problems recovering the iLok license (especially if the iLok/license was never registered to you).

If I have a broken iLok with valid licenses on the iLok website (my account), why can't these licenses simply be transferred to my new iLok? Why does the old (broken) iLok need to be present for this sync to happen?

The license does not really "exist" in you iLok account, that's just a record. The license exists on your iLok once you install it there.

It would kind of defeat the whole purpose of a licensing dongle if a user could just clone a license without the iLok's web site first being able to remove it from where it is installed on an exiting iLok.

The bottom line is that I need to get an RMA to get a new iLok and get this one fixed? Will iLok ensure that all of my licenses are on one good working iLok? Sorry for my inexperience with iLok issues. :(

I just want my broken iLok (which has Pro Tools HD 10.2) to work with my new Mbox3 (which has its own iLok with Pro Tools 9.6).

At the end of the day, I should be running Pro Tools HD 10.2 with my MBox3 on one functioning iLok. :)

Yes and yes, as long as these license really belong to you and the record of them shows up in your iLok account.

What iLok essentially does is look at the serial number of the damaged iLok hardware and look at what iLok your license was downloaded to. If they match they put them on a new iLok for you (you are paying them for that iLok).
