Hey Roy. Doing fine. I hope you've been well too. I always enjoy listening to your songs. Carol and I are in the process of adopting a baby girl. We just completed all the paperwork and will go to China in a few more months.

Talk with you soon.

This is a live studio recording, 3 piece band doing a Who cover.

8 mics in my live room, no overdubs, no EQ. The only effect is TL-Space on the Vox.

The setup:

Drums: AKG 451C stereo pair ORTF into the ams-neve 1073DPD.
Drums: D112 Kick - into the C|24
Drums: SM75 snare into the C|24

Bass: MD421 C|24

Vocal: Neumann TLM-103 Avalon 737sp
Background Vox: Sure SM58 C|24

Guitar: SM57 C|24
Guitar: MD421 C|24

All the faders at zero, guitars and OH panned hard left/right everything else in the mono channel.

Cool Tune!
Very RETRO...doorslike. THe drummer is very good. That really makes a difference.

Hey Raid

Good tune,

I'm not sure on the recording though, although its very clear and all, it just seems like its missing something.

Thanks

You realize it was a live studio recording? No overdubs, no separation between tracks, no EQ or anything...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey guys,

thought I'd share a couple from the archives while I have them up and hosted today here. These are not by far PT quality recordings, but they are pretty funny none the less... they are from a band called The Betrayed that I used to play guitar in back in the day a long time ago.

Piggy Patrol
A song about cops and doughnuts..etc... basically teenage rebelion.

Forgotten Elf
A song about this little elf that comes out (people imagine) during certain times that chases these type of folks around with a lighter attempting to light certain parts of their body on fire and sits down and eats whole loaves of bread with those type of folks also.. yet another teenage type song but pretty funny...

Enjoy!

p.s. the cracking sound in the Piggy Patrol song would be our singer lighting 3 rounds of firecrackers off of his bare chest on stage..

Thanks Charlie and Riad...

I'm working at a makeshift setup with my new stuff until my desk is completely built...feels like it's taken forever, but should be great when it's all done. The desktop is being cut right now, and the carpenter and I have everything else ready to go. I'm doing everything but recording until it's all set up. Should be great when it's done...probably early August.

thanks again... -Roy

haven't posted in awhile, got a new one.

Not sure about the vox, a few intonation clams, they might need to be redone, but I might just need to become a better singer first.

thanks for listening.

Doc,

couldn't get your link to work...

roy and chris,

that new mastered version sounds great, really crisp and clear, great arrangement/playing as usual, roy.

riad, nice job on the live stuff, the guitar has an especially nice sound.

superpenguin;

the donuts/cops thing is you, right? very cool sound, pretty bright, but I'm guessing you working under limited circumstances.

gene, very nice as usual.

later all,

I really like this tune. Your vocals are very distinctive, and recognizeable as your sound !

Very cool song

That is actually a live tracked song from a band I played in when I was 17 back in the day. It was in a very open room and they had these k-mart style mics and our singer in that band couldn't sing for anything really... I was playing guitar for the band on those tracks at that time though. Just came across the songs in my archives and thought I'd share for laughs.

btw.. nice new track man! peace

Sketch

Something from my sketchbook, complete with coffee stains and scribbled phone numbers. I have given up eliminating ambient sounds (like traffic and the answering machine)...so now I just incorporate them into the song, meaning be damned. Thanks for listening. Hope it makes you smile. Wut? Yeah.

Thanks Chas...the dirtier solo stuff is my custom guit through a guit processor...combination of flange and wah...the clean guit is my Strat straight into my old Digi001.(now using an 002)...I'll be using my new THD Bi-Valve coming up.

thanks very much...I listened to 'Lambeau Swing' again recently...great job on that.

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Hi,

Here's one of my first protools songs. It's called: "Only One Thing I Can Say" on the link below

http://homepage.mac.com/laurenheintz/

The other song "No More" is a political rant and was a work in progress test version, so be forewarned if you decide to listen to that song (I had a newer version that I lost because my Session HD crashed).

These may be the last songs I record. I think it's time I grew up and found a new hobby. So I thought I'd air the first one I mentioned here before they permanently go to the storage shelf.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Sharritan,

Excellent, clean mix (in my amateur opinion). Two items:

1. The chorus on the harmony vocals gives a chromey sheen that does not seem in line with the sort of wrought iron authenticity of the lead vocals and the song in general. Like a little pop-spy in the house of rock. At least I think that's what's bothering me...I listened to it over and over. Maybe it's just the harmony itself, like on "I could not get loose or even try"...it's a fourth, right? Is there heavy chorus on it?

2. Is it my imagination or does the kick lose some body in the coda? (And I like the "ow" artefact...I think you should keep it.)

Once again, this is just an amateur opinion.

Hey Scott, cool track man! I agree on the toms, IMHO the snare could have a touch more snap to it in the beginning. I think it is the way the drummer is hitting caus it seems to even out with more snap towards the end. I dig the guitars also man! peace

Thanks for the listen. The harmony (really just an octave lower) during the chorus seems a little wierd to me too. I think I reverbed it to death. I may just remove that low part all together. Not sure but I agree that it is a little strange. I removed it once then put it back in and loved it through headphones????? Not sure.... The other harmony is a fourth and it too is only reverb. Maybe a little too much.

2. I don't get what you are saying here? I plan on keeping the "ow" part also. I love it when songs end with a natural flub.....

Again, thanks for the listen.

It just sounded like the kick drum lost some low end at the very end of the song. But I'm on headphones here at work.

I also forgot to mention how much I like the lead vocalist's voice.

Okay, at the risk of annoying you, I have one more thing. The hooky line "lost inside". The pitch is good on the first one, but the second and third might be worth a retake (or some kind of software fix). It's the syllable "in", which I think is really important to nail because it's followed by that grungey slur on "si-ide", which is cool. It may be at the top of his range, but well worth tackling. Okay, that's all.
