Laptop:Windows or Mac?

I want to get a laptop that has the muscle to run PTLE as well as other stand alone software for live performance applications. Are the better Windows machines reliable, and what should I be looking at if I want the maximum performance for my dollar? Should I be thinking Powerbook G4 or am I just kidding myself thinking a Mac is more reliable and heartier than Windows based machines? Thanks.

well you're going to get different answers, on each side of the fence.... I've got PT running really well on a Toshiba Satelite Laptop, and on a G4 Powerbook.

Use what ever platform you are most comfortable, and make SURE the laptop is compatable with PT.

iBooks work like Crap with PT, and some Dell laptops work like crap etc...

it's all good in this day and age.

I have a powerbook G4 with OS X 10.3.8
I can not run PT LE stable enough to trust my recording.
So, I cary my desktop Allenstein machine to the recordings.
But that's me.

I have an Emachines M6809 and it works great. Best Buy sells a new version of it under the Gateway name. If you look under best laptops it is the most recomended. I never get any error messages and from what I hear it outperforms the G4 by far. After I did a custom install of the OS I can record with 64 sample buffers on all 8 analog inputs and monitor back using Focusrite compressors and 7 band EQ on every channel.
