Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Wow!
maybe it's the way Smiling Politely treats his vox, the song reminds me of Skinny Puppy tracks, but with a contemporary feel.
Very COOL!

CellAutomata,

Great Stuff...good ideas...good compositions and mix. My only reccomendation (nad this is a very small one) would be to extend the rhythmic elements by themselves an extra 8 to 16 bars ahead and after any melodic elements. The first tune's beginning is great...maybe another 4 bars. The ONLY reason for doing this is to make it easier for other DJ's to spin it...there are no musical reasons for doing this at all.

Cheers,
Chris

Re: here\'s my latest two tracks

Thanks for your feedback, Chris.
Track 1 is made from 70 tracks premixed down to 32. I do plan on making edit changes here and there. I am also working on a DJ-friendly remix ... should be finished by December sometime, all depending how much free time I'll get. Are you a DJ by any chance?

Re: here\'s my latest two tracks

And thank you too Roy!
I'm glad you've enjoyed Track 1 all the way.

There will be some changes made very soon. I plan to change the timbre of the "my desire" vocoder part, as well some other elements here and there.

I'm a big fan of Reason. And I hope Track 1 proves that Reason does kick ass. Reason + Protools = deadly combination.

Of course, all the 70+ tracks were premixed down to 32 tracks within Reason, with lots of automation. Then the 32 tracks were exported to Protools for further editing, mixing, and mastering.

I forgot to mention, al the guitar parts were played by Alan Moon -- one of the best guitarist in Vancouver, BC.

Re: here\'s my latest two tracks

Cell,

No, I'm not a DJ...but have helped a number of DJ's produce their own tracks. (It's great to know a few people who can use reason to it's full capability...today's studio musician roster should include skilled artisans in this area, and I'm lucky enough to know a few.) What you'll find among DJ's is that tracks that have rhythmic intros and lead-outs (with little to hint at the key of the song) are prefferable for live shows. It makes beat matching a piece of cake, and prevents any harmonic clashes during the transistion b/w songs. It also leaves some space for some DJ's to introduce their own fills, samples, and mixing during the transition. The one-minute or more rhythmic intro and leadout are sort of the definition of "spin-friendly". If you get your hands on vinyl from any of the top three or four live dj's who also produce, you'll probably notice this as a trend amongst their better and more spun works. It's the harmonic clashing that's tough on the ears during the transition...so you'll probably notice that the better tracks use more ethereal harmonic sounds that don't really hint at the key of the song during these sections.

Cheers,
Chris

I posted this one the DUC Xmas thread also...

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

I haven't been able to do much recording in the past 6 weeks, my computer went down. Learned a
BIG lesson about backing up!
So this is what you get when you're in a rush. Enjoy...
