Ronnie Montrose

Very sad to hear about Ronnie passing. (I guess this is more of a general topic, but it seemed more appropriate to post here in the guitar forum.)

I picked up the first Montrose record a few years after its release just after I started playing guitar. It was one of those albums I would play along with for hours, and is still one of my favorites almost 4 decades later.

RIP Ronnie.

Really sad, and 64 is way to early to leave.

I bought their first on casette as my 4 one (I think). After Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep, if my memory serves me right. Really refreshing :-)

As a sidenote: When listening to songs co-written and sung by Sammy Hagar (at 18), is clearly show how much impact Sammy had on the song writing in the "Van Hagar" area (I even think he held VH together for some time).

R.I.P Ronnie Montrose.

Made In Japan, another classic staple for a budding rock guitarist!

Here's a track I thought I'd offer up as a tip of the hat to Ronnie...

I recently read Sammy's biography. There's a lot of it covering his time with Montrose, some of it not very flattering of Montrose himself as a person, but still a great read.

You know it was the 70's and things were huge. Including what people tended to tell you, so I'm sure some ego's were quite inflamed and some feelings got bumped around.
