O.K. the disclaimer start's like this:
My friend Morty and I coming up with a tune,
He's lead singer bass player , me, everything else.
I actually had some ideas for the tune, but he quickly headbutted them into submission.
tell me what you think, it has issues,(besides my guitar solo going flat midway thru.)and I think it would be a good one to pick apart ( for the newcomer's of coarse)

roger, I liked "sports" a lot. the drums sound really good. Are you using sampletank? That's the next thing I want to tackle.

archtop, I like the song a lot, what is that in the background with the guitar, a horn patch on your keyboard? It sounds good. Nice guitar playing.

Badperson thank you
It's 3 tracks of a real trumpet(Doc Severenson model Getzen ETERNA) my chops are not what the used to be, so I kept it real simple and easy.

Here’s an album I recently finished. It’s mixed so one track goes into the other – also album #1 goes into album #2 as the Iuma site only allow 10 tracks per ‘album’.

I starts off with some dub then continues through a bunch of electronic genres.

All,
Not sure if covers are allowed, but I thought that this was kinda cool. My good friend in Pheonix plays in a cover band called "StealWool." They are all Air Force F-16 pilots by day, and play as in the band at night. Been doing it for years as they travel around and get back together...... So long story short, they recorded this in Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and sent me the wav files to remix in ProTools. Well the results are MUCH better IMO. The song is called MeKong, written by "The Refreshments." It really gave me the opportunity to mess with the drums some and distorted guitars. They recorded with Audix mics I think. There was really no sound from them at all, so that was a challenge to get the toms to come out at all. NOt impressed with the Audix mics... Really dead sounding. I had fun though! CUT, CUT, and EQ!! Hope that nobody minds that it is a cover that somebody remade. I had a blast messin' with it.

Ooooh, I feel like a giddy schoolgirl showing off my new prom dress! Anyway, here goes --- a couple of recent pieces. Both done on the 001; both nice and short, so not a lot of listening time required.

This song, "Writhe" (2:04), was mostly Reason sounds (obvious if you listen to it), but mixed in Pro Tools:

http://www.billyscores.com/special2.html

The other one, "Stitch" (2:49), has some Reason stuff, but lots of other samples and sounds dropped in:

Let me know if you like them --- and if you don't, be kind. I'm sensitive...

Wow! My second post in a row. Bumpin' this I guess.
Alright, I was not going to post this, but I felt compelled to just throw it out there. I picked up an old MesaBoogie Studio Preamp this weekend for DIRT Cheap and gave it a test drive on the system. I ran it out direct into my ADA MicroCab 2, then into a BBE 462 Sonic Maximizer, out to the Digitech TSR24S for reverb and then into the HUSH (noisy but not that bad.) Added a simple drum loop and had some fun laying down a rhythm. I think that the amp has a very good Old School Janes Addiction sound which is what I wanted and can be driven to a TOOLish sound if desired. It also carries a great blues sound and has a extremely clean channel as well. Here ya go for the cheesy DOC sound.. I really dig it seeing I am old school. Hell I have an ADA-MP1 in my rack too.. Probably will put a wanker solo over it tonight.

http://members.cox.net/andrewsintel/Test2.mp3

Enjoy, and please look at the song I had to remix for a friend above...

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

I am very impressed with the quality of recordings out there...

germ - not really my type of music, but I was still hooked...nice rhythm.

billy101 - sounds like you are a Reason whiz - Writhe is very interesting.

Joe Kelley - the links didn't work for me..but I am using a PC w/ RealOne player right now - could easily be something wrong with my config but I am too lazy to figure it out.

Cargoplex - invalid link to "Leaving The Station MP3 Download Page"....according to mac.com

cliepe12 - incredible recordings...can't believe they were done on PTLE...amazing. The songs are great except that they tend to sound the same since every song was recorded in exactly the same way....does that make sense?

sneakypete - sounded good to me, but I'm no expert on punk so my opinion probably doesn't count for much.

jamlaw - "I am" - great song...recording sounds perfect to me...again - can't believe it was only PTLE. I definitely liked this song better than others on the mp3 page, but that could just be my musical tastes.

byteme - "Oxygen" was probably the song I liked best of all the ones I heard. These mixes are so far above what I can do...it's pissin' me off. "Breaking Me" didn't do anything for me but nothing wrong with the mix.

I did notice some recordings similar in quality to my own...so all is not lost. I provide the following for critique...
Fragment - Lady Divine

Digi001
Mac G4 Dual 1.25GHz
ADK A-51TC vocal mic
Focusrite Voicemaster preamp
BLUE Dragonfly on Taylor acoustic
Gigastudio piano
drums recorded with a scattering of dynamic mics, dragonfly overhead, Shure Beta 52 on kick

Hey blindmelon,

Don't be hard on yourself ! Great tune and the chorus vocals are really nice. Overall song is very well orchestrated !

On a side note, on the violin part if you want to have a real violin let me know, I play ! There is nothing wrong with the sound at all, it is just an option if you so desire !

Really nice job !!!

Take Care,
Gene

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

just listened to nerd and billies tracks.

Nice job guys, billy may I suggest you duplicate a few of your tracks, and ever so slightly "tune" the sound and play it at the same time as the original. It can make your tracks "fatter"

But I was digging the style/sound of you stuff.

Keep this post rolling !!!

billy101 07-30-2003 04:43 PM

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Thanks to blindmelon and Kris W. for taking the time to listen to my tracks --- the kind words are most appreciated.

And good advice, Kris, regarding doubling some of the parts. Sometimes with electronica, I find it tough to bring out any "hooks", as I have so many inter-mingling parts hapenning. I really like the idea of using the double to thicken some parts. Will try that for sure!

kris whitten 07-30-2003 05:35 PM

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

sometimes "doubling" or "duplicating" the same track makes it appear less "thin" and makes it appear really robust.

just duplicate the track, set mixer level, maybe pan them each hard left/right and then heck., duplicate it again and leave the pan in the middle on the third track.

Are you on reason 2.5?

billy101 07-30-2003 06:02 PM

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

Hey there, Kris ---

Actually, I'm a big fan of the whole doubling thing. On big ol' guitar stuff, it's something I do almost automatically. On the tune "Writhe", the main synth riff is doubled and panned hard left and right, with the right side delayed by a sixteenth note.

And much as I hate to admit it, I'm still running Reason 1.0. All the sounds are bounced to .wav's (I think it was .wav's), for heavy tweaking in PT.

Thanks for the input, Kris!

LINK FIXED

Okay IntelDoc, I finally switched to broadband!!! And consequently have a little webspace to gobble up. So, here's my most recent work. I can't remember the name of this standard, but I do remember the lyrics whenever I hear the melody, hence the odd name. So, without further ado: Egg Basket !!!

BTW, it isn't mastered or trimmed yet, so please excuse the rawness. Any comments on the mix will surely be read. Thanks in advance.

Ok, Mr. Broadband boy. First comment is that the link did not work

Talk to you later,
Also, I sent ya pics of my studio stuff. Check your email.
