Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hi.....I have owned the 001 for about three weeks and I took on a project as a guinea pig. Please let me know what you think!
www.bigskyband.com/chris Download the track called "I cried." Detailed, constructive critism is appreciated. I had to do a lot of fixin' under a short time table. Anyway, thanks! Later. guitarBigsky |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hey check out some of my bands stuff done on my 001 rig before I had my octo pre. http://www.mp3.com/catalyst-theory
The vocals aren't great but I had only been singing for about 3 months when I recorded it. I did find it distracting to try to mix when I had to listen to my poor attempt at vocals but they are getting better. After a few more months of voice lessons and practicing my vocal lines with my guitar I'm sure everything will improve. Any comments are welcome. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Ok, I'm jumping in.
Here is one of my original tunes. It is a old time/country waltz sort of thing. It is called "Margaret's Waltz". http://www.laurablackleyband.com/sou...z%204_6_02.mp3 It was recorded to a DIGI 001 through Tascam Pres in an inline console. Some mandolin editing was done on a Mix 24 Core TDM system. All of the mixing was done on my friends DIGI 001 system through his Event 20/20 BAS nearfields. I used the follwing mics. Neuman U87, AKG 414s, SM-81s, AKG D-112, and an old AKG C460 (the long pencil type). Cheers, Bassist |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
OK Folks. This is a long-standing Demo that I had the pleasure of having Mr. Roy Howell write and perform some slide to it. The song is called Remedy. Stylistically, it is unique. Lyrics are as follows(as they are hard to make out),
The way you looked at me, the times you stuck by me, the things you said, will always remain with me. the squint of your eyes, and the sun would shine. the comfort you'd provide; i wish you still were mine.... You were my remedy, my one and only cure, you were my remedy, i thought you were mine for sure you were my remedy, and im here without, you were my remedy, and now im here without you.. 2x... Its an interesting piece. appreciate any feedback. Remedy_demo My personal thanks to Bio for hosting the song. and to Roy, for the slide bits. =-CP. |

I've not been active lately. Here are a couple of tracks from different sides of the street. Any critique is welcome.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
no problem ben. i think this is a great song, i had a chance to playt w/ it bbut didn't do nearly as well and roy (as im not nearly as professional).
the only thing i didnt like is that theres not much going on in the verse and chorus....its very bland and could be filled better. but the solo really brings you away from that emptyness. i think the vocals are really good, the bass on the last ˝ of the song is great. the whole tune just has a great feel except for that blank space by the vocals at the begining. but good job none the less guys. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Here's another prog rock track I did mostly on Digi001. The drums again are just a stereo mix from a Roland VS880.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Captain,
Nice stuff..I really dug it. I'm curious, was the entire song done in PTLE? What did you use for the beats? Thanks for sharing your stuff...Oh, and Roy's slide solo is outstanding! X |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hi, long time no see
Now I have made my first long play recording in my "Basement-studio". Finnish band called "Bleak Crowd" want to made some music and we done 12 song session with 32 tracks (without crash or blue screen) I appreciate very much, if you can/want to listen few tracks in http://koti.mbnet.fi/bleakcro/download.html and tell me, what you liked or what I shoud do different way in next time. Mastering was made in HD studio. Thanks |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
XProd, I am using PT exclusively for tracking and mixing(though that song wasnt really mixed that good). For Wave Manipulation, I use Goldwave, or outboard gear. As far as Drums, I just find the sound I need. It may be me slapping a cardboard box with a hammer, and then manipulating the sound to whatever I want it to sound like. Or, sometimes, if it sounds right, Ill use the drums on my Triton Le, but usually I take and manipulate my drums to avoid outside duplication. As far as gridding, I grid all my drums manually. Every few measures I add some sort of fill or change the pattern for a measure just so it doesnt become so standard in your mind as you listen to it. I hoped I answered your questions?

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Yes you did...thanks. I'm just pretty new to MIDI, sampling, loops..etc. I wasn't sure if music incorporating the above noted was "easy" in PT. I've been strictly live instruments since I've owned the DIGI 001 and I always "hear" how PT isn't that good for MIDI based music..blah blah blah. It's nice to hear good music like yours being produced within PTLE.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Well, thank you for the compliments. MIDI isnt really that bad once you get to know it. I used to think it was bad, but Roy showed me a few things, and some others showed me some things, now I use it for about %50 of my songs. Its just so easy to use now. If you have any questions I might be able to help you, try:
Or, as always, the DUC guys are a dictionary of knowledge compared to my napkin of information. Thanks again for the compliments! =-Ben |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hello All,
Here is a tune I did recently. I did all the parts with some help from MIDI on the bass line and part of the drum track. I decided to experiment with a mixture of live drums and MIDI drums on this tune. Let me know what you think of the drum sound. It is called Down The Road. You can find it at: http://www.controlnet.com Have Fun, BillT |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
A lot of new stuff has been posted lately...I am behind on listening to recent stuff myself, (been a little busy), but I'm gonna try and catch up ASAP.
Novice Dollars/Sean... I heard 'Can't Sleep' last night, and really enjoyed it. I've liked everything you've posted so far, as a matter of fact. Very fresh and creative, I think. Another good job... thanks, Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
bassist,
I really enjoyed listening to 'Margaret's Waltz'. All the acoustic instruments are recorded well, and I especially like the mandolins. Good job. By the way, is that a dobro I hear back there, or just slide on an acoustic guitar? thanks, Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I finally got a chance to listen to a few all at once:
neatguys/Dave- Well, I enjoyed hearing '9 daze' and 'above the clouds' again...very nice stuff...and 'Lend me a Koto' could be in an oriental film. Sounds like you had fun doing that one... thanks, Roy (by the way, I saw you ask in a thread, but I traded amps yet... maybe this week though. thanks again for your help). metaltim- I finally heard 'everyday'. Nice percussion, as always. Man, the harmonies on the chorus parts are really interesting. Did you use anything special for that? Nice job overall. Micah777- What a great song! It makes me want to be there... The vocalist is really unique, though I agree with Aussie169 that it could come up a touch. Nice choice of instruments...the congas are nice. The arrangement's perfect, IMO... Good job! guitarBigsky- I think you did a very good job with this group. Very clean production...you can hear everything that's there. Nice mix... bjoneill74- Very interesting piece, very progressive. So many changes, but they flow well, and the vocal effects sound good where you've used them. Good stuff. thanks, Roy billt- Well, I think can hear the famous billt cymbals and hats here and there in your song. Interesting stuff. I pulled out one of my billt Zildjans for something the other day. They sound really nice too... thanks Roy Gene Backlin- Very nice as usual... I really like the material you choose to do, and it sounds like you have become comfortable recording and mixing it now. Good job. Thanks for letting me listen. I'll try to catch anything I may have missed soon. ~Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I sent my friend, pk_hat, a mandolin sample I had created, and he wrote this around it. It's tentatively titled 'Southern Chill'.

I don't you know which on you have, soooo.. either way, nothing special on the vox on either one those, just singin. I do notice on 'beginning', I do one of may favortie techniques where the harmonies end up together in unison at the end of a line. Gives a real good effect cause when the voices go together, it has that real full sound. On 'everday', I remember putting that lower harmoney in, and it was real quiet, but then I kinda ended up liking it like that. It's almost like it's not there, but it is. anyway if you still have the mp3, you oughta see which one it is!!! thnx for the listen.. |

metaltim, Yes, it was 'beginning'... I got it from the post where you said..."And yet another one up on my site..it's called everyday, you can get here" anyway, good job...... -Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
thanks!
The song will be improved and re-posted with a new title. Stay tuned... p.s. Roy, how'bout a few guitar layers in there? |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Well i haven't put one up in a while it seems, probly because I haven't done ANYTHING. My main man, wes, my recording partner, moved to New York, so my stuff has just been sitting here. arghhh
well i broke the spell yesterday and came up with something. I'm trying a whole new back of tricks that I learned from, no other, the DUC. Just kinda want some comments on how it sounds, cause to me, just a few simple things/tricks makes this mix sound better than anything I think I've ever done for sure. There aren't any vox yet, just the song, so it may kinda repeat itself, but not too bad. let me know what you think. oh yeh i went out on a limb on the drums too. for the most part i've always kept my drums pretty much 100% dry. so let me know how you think those sound too, or compare them to any other songs of mine that you may have heard. thanks o yeh, the song. away you can get it, and others, here as well. thanks Tim |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Here is a Christian Gospel piece I recorded last week for a friend. Female vox, simple piano and strings. I did the production, engineering and string arrangement.
Eloi.mp3 It's a rough mix. It may not be your cup of tea lyric-wise but any helpful comments would be appreciated. Thanks! Stay tuned... R |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
"p.s. Roy, how'bout a few guitar layers in there?"
I have a part right now that keeps going through my mind... I just have to stop and do it. It's gonna make that C happen... |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hi,
I've been lurking at this board for awhile. I've been putting together a cd with my 001. Here's my first completed tune. I used a rode nt1a, I don't have any preamps or anything. Would love comments on the production, thanks. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/gernbloogmusic.htm p.s. I realize soundclick is a drag, I'm in the process of putting up a website. I should have more this weekend. later. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy -
Thanks for the compliment on my stuff. I'm really happy with Can't Sleep, with one exception, that the SansAmp doesn't doesn't come close to the Peavey 5150 I got a few months ago. I might retrack the distortion parts. I've been so busy with my new band I haven't been on the board in a while...nice surprise to see your comment. Sean. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Metaltim,
Sweet stuff...I wish I could get my drums to sound like that! Can't wait to hear it with vocals. This is my first time posting one of my own songs so please...be gentle Tell me what you guys think of this tune: Sometimes I played all the intruments except for bass. I'm primarily a guitar player and "mess around" with drums so be prepared for some "off" hits or increases in tempo! Also, the song is still in the demo stage and isn't complete...some parts (like the first chorus) need to be shortened and I need to come up with a good bridge before the end chorus...and oh yeah, No vocals yet. I'm still searching for a good singer. Hope you guys like it! -X- |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
A rough mix at best. I have just started in on the vocals. All comments invited and welcome.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Just got to listen to a few...
metaltim- Man, I really like this theme. It's my favorite of all the things you've posted(I'm into instrumentals anyway). I think you're wise to 'space' those fine drums with a little verb like you've done... I don't think they need to be dry for this. The irregular timing of the piece is part of what makes it cool to me. Even the title works for me. Good job, Tim... Muffler- 'Without you' is a nice one. Good job on the lead vocal, and the acoustic is super nice. The slide guitar works well for this too. Good luck on the CD, and let us hear more when you can... thanks, Roy xprod77- Very interesting arrangement on 'Sometimes', and a good song. There is a slight 'boom' going on that's hard to pinpoint, but I think it might be the acoustic guitars (which are otherwise very nice). But that's hopefully a simple mix thing, and other than that, I think it's a very nice piece. Please keep posting your stuff, because it's very good. thanks for letting me listen... -Roy |
