Thanks for your comments Jeff. I am still trying to figure out the timing issues when using both midi and audio so yeah, I knew the timing needs work. I'm glad you liked the song ideas.

Roy, I tend to visualize a lot when I hear music and your Dead Cool made me see a dark alley and something lurking in the shadows.

I really like the off-hand horn stabs acting as a nice commentary to the rest of the heavy mood. Does it have lyrics?

Very new artist here, I am an expat living in Hong Kong so I have set up this MP3 site, so my mates back home can hear what I am doing. They are very much kind of works in progress, but I am interested as to what you guys think.

My set-up is a Digi 001, REASON, Korg Triton, and Maton ac/elec guitar.

Thanks in advance.

Hello All,

In between all computer tweaking, ASIO-fiddling and belly-dancing (what?!?) we actually managed to finish a new song last night.

It´s called Down To Earth and is a laid back kind of a pop-song.

My buddys vocals went through a Focusrite Trakmaster, so did the bass. Drum is Reason, keyboards is me and a very good friend of mine did the guitar solo that we transferred via ICQ....which f*cked up his computer so now we´re back to computer tweaking, ASIO.....Ahhhh....I´ll just shut up now...

Give it a go..

Roy,

thanks for your comments.
Yeah, well...one of the things that we just couldn´t get good is the drumfill right before the solo...sounds dead...!

Yes, the keyboards play a very major role in this song

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Really good songwriting there.I think your wrong about the drum break before the solo .I thought the entire production was excellent.the solo Made me think of whales by what was played Don't know if it was intentional but if it was it worked.Good singer as well. It's refreshing to hear a tune with some content.Save the planet it's the only one we have. Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Not that I would be doing it better , but I think too that in that drumfill the hits after the first two could be more furious ( faster ) but for the song I go with Stut.

Well done, good sounding and -

"in a deep black sea of lies ...
we are fools, we are wrong
only truth is our home"

even with content of importance ( to me ).

I like it

Stu, Lala...

thanks guys....yeah, that slide solo came out pretty good...Was fun doing it too. I did a rough mix, sent it to my friend who made the solo....he mailed the solo back...I pasted...

the drum-fill....we will probably go crazy over that...

I have just posted my first attempt at this - at least using my 001 and ProToolsLE. I would appreciate ANY feedback - composition, performance, mixing, etc.

Here is the link:

The song is called "For the Life of Me" and I guess it is a sort of power ballad - I just don't know what else to call it.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

///Go,

I thought the song as a whole was very good. My thought on the fill before the solo was this: the tempo seemed fine, but if you started with a short roll on the snare, played soft to hard (quiet to loud) it would give you the "more furious" effect that lalaman was talking about and kind of set up the slide better. Just my 2 cents!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Raffles,
Finally got to listen... 'Faded Love' has some nice chords, and I'll bet it would sound even better with a little reverb, possibly. The timing could be a bit tighter, possibly using a metronome, and some added instruments might benefit it as well. But, the concept is very good. Nice piano sound too...
Your flute in 'The River Flows' is also very nice. You were wise to add other instruments to enhance it. This would be my favorite of the two songs.
Your appreciation for music is obvious in these songs. So I encourage you to keep creating and posting the new things you do.

Thanks, Roy

All right, it's been a while since i've recorded one, but this weekend my friend and I knocked one out.

It is his song, so comments on the actual song are great, I'll pass them to him.

I was workin the mouse and keyboard though, so comments on technicalities are very welcome. I still consider myself a newbie to this, so enlighten me.

The song is "When you're gone", and it's here.

Carbon111:

I liked it - seemed to be ambient/new age. I would have guessed it to be the sping solstace on Mars. That one sound lind of reminded me of peepers or crickets like you hear at night in the spring/summer. The mix sounded good to me, but the overall level was kind of quiet - but that might be what you are after.

metaltim:

At first it kind of reminded me of a 70's pop/country type of song. But then got into the main part of the song and it was more like a Hootie and the Blowfish kind of song. The singer sounded a little bit like Bob Seger to me.

When the drums started it seemed to be a little out of time - like the song was speeding up at that point, but it might have just been the drums. Also the singer seemed to be too close to the mic - some breath noise, etc. I also thought that the vocal got a little lost during the "bridge" section.

Overall I thought it was a good song - I wouldn't have been surprised to hear it on the radio.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Roy, thanks for your comments. Yeah, "Faded Love" needs to be tightened up. I'm going to rerecord it in the near future. I was watchin a special on "Big Sur" the other night on TV and kept hearing "The River Flows" instead of the music they were using. I have several flute melodies that I need to flesh out. I really like the "contemplative" feel of the flute. More to come...

I don’t know how many Acid users are in this group, but I am one of them. Sonic Foundry has a website called Acid Planet, where from time to time they hold remix competitions. They post a series of loops from a known published song, allow members to download them, and remix them. The goal is to give starving artists a chance to get their work heard by signed artists and record executives.

This particular contest featured a new artist named “FrouFrou”. The original track is electro pop in style, and when I heard it I thought that it would sound better if it were more organically produced.

This mix was accomplished by using

1. Acid 4
2. Battery (VSTi) (Studio Drums Library)
3. Virtual Guitarist (VSTi) (Acoustic Version)
4. UAD-1 (DSP effects card)
5. A couple of loops I had floating around.
6. And the Original Vocals

I hope nobody is offended that I am posting this here (PTLE was not used), but I really would like some opinions… because:

1. Many of the members of this board make similar music.
2. The music I have heard others post has been excellent, and I wish to be judged by those individuals
3. I’m desperate for some attention

Here it is!

I was indeed trying to mellow out after my last CD - two 1/2 hour tracks of analog recursive noise-music...just needed some mental floss after all the brain taffy. Thanks allot guys!

Sonic Foundry regularly has these competitions. If anyone is interested in joining this competition and remixing this same song, here is the link.
FrouFrou

BTW. You don't have to do the mix entirely in Acid. You can work on it in ProTools and then export your parts to Acid for arrangement.

They even have a free version of Acid for you to arrange your song in if you don't already have one of your own.

Granted it isn't as robust as 4.0, but it still is pretty bad ass.

Keep in mind that the live drums and vocals have not been recorded yet.
I would really appreciate ANY suggestions/critiques in the mixing, sound, balance, etc. I'm still learning this.

Also, can someone with decent speakers tell me how it sounds on them. I've just been doing headphone mixes and hoping santa is especially nice to me this year!
