Gorilla... well, after listening to your song cranked up (still loud from last night), I can safely say I'm wide awake now... I enjoyed it, man... is this the same group you've been working with?.... thanks, Roy

Joz,
Great job on 'I'll get by'... obviously a superb production. I love to hear a song that doesn't take itself too seriously (lyrically, or in subject matter), but is produced with serious attention to detail. You do an excellent job, man... ~Roy

Roy, you hit it right on. Im sure if I ask my singer what the **** she's talking about Im sure it would be something serious(as she usually does)even if the "serious" meaning of the song doesnt come through. but the goal is to make it lyricaly simple(not meaning though) so I guess she succeded at that . I guess if fans want to know what the songs are about they'd have to ask us, coz its almost impossible to guess from the lyrics coz we dont give out many clues there

But somehitng that needs to be transparent and come through is the production.

Joz

Well Guys, here it is "Strawboss"

I know this is supposed to be your latest stuff, but in reality, this is the first full rock project I ever took on solo (recording, mixing, and mastering with no assistants). Prior to this, it was almost all jazz and classical, or an assistant myself. It's been a while, more than three years I think since this session (they really need to get back in the studio, they've come a long way), but I'd still love to get some opinions (it's amazing how far you come in three years). Click on the broadband link, it should open right up in windows media player, and yes, that photo is of the live room where I work during the day (and night )

Just to let anyone wondering know:

-gobs of mics (too many and various to list)
-just stock mackie pre's (old ones too!)
-no outboard processing, just plugins
-entirely mixed in pro tools (TDM 24 mix plus)

Great thread here, I'd listen to more tunes if it weren't for this pesky dialup connection. Thanks for any replies.

Roy,

Here is a link to some MP3s of songs from Jonathan Barnes' newest CD we recorded last year. These contain about a minute of each song.

My guitars were amplitube also.It will be background music for an x games type show during the rider profile.

Chris,
Very nice, man...I listened to the first 3 (for now) and I'm really impressed. Killer singer, guitar sounds, and mix. Were you the engineer on this, and was this released? Good work...thanks, Roy

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Roy,

I sure was. Recording, mixing, and mastering engineer. (mastering in wavelab)

Keep in mind, this was my first real rock job, and done about three years ago. Whenever I listen to it, I wish I could go back and change soooo much. It's nice to keep around to remind me how far I've come, and just how much I loved the experience of making it.

You're absolutely right about the singer. Man, a real talent. He'd only been singin' three months before they went into the studio. (we didn't even use autotune, although he could have used it in places)

It hasn't been picked up, and I'm not sure the band wants it to be, they've come so far musically, but you'd have to ask them about that. It's quite amazing. To hear their new songs really makes this material seem amateur-ish.

The album has managed to get them some fantastic gigs though. They've played the WB new talent showcases (even though they didn't get signed), and just last week the lead guitarist was asked to accompany Marc Broussard (another good friend and great songwriter imo) in opening for Willie Nelson on his 70th birthday. Some of the stories i've heard from that gig need to be written in a memoir somewhere. Even though the prior incarnation opened for ZZ-top and Skynyrd way back when, these guys just can't seem to get signed, but I love 'em.

Everybody,
I'm sure you can find something in there to give a little criticism on. I'm looking to improve, not just accept compliments. So, open the floodgates, tear the pieces limb from limb, I can take it !

Really though, all replies are welcome and appreciated. Thanks again for giving it a gander Roy.
