Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Please check out my latest track Washington and State at: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/328/bad_man_taxi.html
It was recorded using the Digi Toolbox and contains some samples I recoded last week in downtown Chicago (using a Mini Disc). The track has had no mastering. Any input on how music like this could benefit from mastering would be appreciated. Thanks, Brent. |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I don't even know how to use what I got. Seriously, I was just making an "off the cuff" remark. I respect what everybody is doin here but like u said chubby, its about time and I'm just a guitar player. Having to learn how to use all this 'puter stuff is rough for an 'ole schooler like me. I just picked up a couple of oktava mc012s for overheads and I'm working on getting a better drum sound. Oh, I want to say thanks to the Da_Basstard for being a source of knowledge, wit and...(well, u know what else I'm talking about Basstard) He's someone who's doin cool things with loops!!
Happy New Year |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hogleg,
Same to you, man......Happy New Year. Sweet girl and I are gonna just kick back with a video and let the world do it's thing tonight... Man, there's some good music comin' through here, isn't it? 2002 sure sounds promising... |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
confusionboats,
"Check Your Tires" was recorded in PTLE. The drum & percussion parts done in Acid 2.0 (SORRY HOGLEG - WOULD LOVE TO DO LIVE DRUMS - ITS REALLY JUST A MATTER OF AVAILABILITY, TIME AND CONVENIENCE). |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Plastik909,
'Washington and State' is interesting. Pretty cool concept... I enjoyed it. Bastiaan, Great energy coming from you and your group on the new stuff... Thanks, Roy |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
soundsurfr,
Thanks for listening. Bill and I are just starting to work together. This was our first collaboration. The song started as loops, the live version done later. Sometime I think the ideas are hard to move from medium to medium like that. I like them both, and I think both could be better. (Both the playing and the mix!) We're doing some new stuff now. Hang tight for that one of these days, and thanks for listening! Cheers, Mark
quote:
Originally posted by soundsurfr: Mark Knecht - I listened to the two versions of the song you posted. I'm almost ALWAYS partial to a live drum track over looped or sequenced drums, but I gotta tell ya, I had a hard time deciding which track I liked better. Not to take anything away from the drummer, he did a great job, but the song kind of lends itself to a loop-generated atmosphere. Either way, cool! Soundsurfr www.soundsurfr.com

|
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Cinemafixer - crap it's NOT! The new song is your best yet, and I've loved everything you've posted so far. The song is beautifully written and performed, and that slick live sound you get from your setup is soooooo cool. Wish I could learn some of your methods.
Keep em coming... Sound www.soundsurfr.com |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Peter/Last and I are collaborating on this. I am to blame for the mix thus far. This will be sung by a female vocalist...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Here's another tune - another rough mix - check out my last post in the drum micing topic - some interesting things happened during tracking. Its a shuffle with a few gospel changes - sax section and solo provided by Kris Jensen of the Dickey Betts Band, Guitar work by Jeff Pevar from David Crosby's CPR band.
web page ps. sorry for the double post |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hey guy,
I'm on my PC so not able to comment on the mix, but I sure liked the song! Take care, Mark |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks, Mark - let me know what you think of the mix when you have a chance....could be the BBE plug, but I think the high end sounds a bit crappy....could be me (spending WAY too many hours in front of my monitors to judge.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Heres one of my New ones... Still in the rough mix stages.....
It's one of my originals, and I play everything and sing.... Digi 001... No console, just mixed on screen... Waves gold bundle.... Enjoy!.... and let me know what you think.. http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/rockpop/voxvendor/ |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Voxvendor,
Hey guy, we need to get you some serious airplay. This is really good. If I went looking for anything about the song for you to think about, it might be finding something more interesting to do with the lead guitar, but if you didn't I'd still enjoy it a lot. Good work! Cheers, Mark |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Cinemafixer,
That's one BIG organ you've got in that song. I'l bet your girlfriend loved listening to you practice! Sounds great! I like this tune. I used to play in a blues band that did a lot of stuff in this basic area, so I have an affinity for these sorts of songs. I didn't get the E,W & F reference from the other post you did. I don't hear that, but I don't know all of their music very well so it's probably just me. You're doing some great stuff. Have you shared anything about WHERE you're doing this recording? Do you have a studio set up that you could talk about? I'd love to hear a bit more. (and more music too!) Thanks for sharing, Mark |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
She LOVES my practicing (not!) - I posted a pic of my control room on dabasstard's site so you can check it out - my assistant engineer is sitting at the console. (his name is Maxwell)... The EW+F reference is missed because I realized that the vocal arrangement is incomplete in this mix - the bridge has a lot of falsetto harmony parts that I haven't finished yet, so I left them out....that's all.

Vox,
Excellent song, and fantastic recording. Mark's right. Also, ending is a bit abrupt, but otherwise great. I was a little surprised at the high quality (no offense) Rand |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
The actual Song is a minute longer...with a nice fade out..... The version you hear is just an edit.... Wanted to keep the file as small as possible...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Here's the first Cinemafixer/Roy Howell collaboration. I played the slide guitar solo. I tell you, it's a pleasure to play with a gentleman of Matt's caliber. The other guitarist is Jeff Pevar, from CPR, David Crosby's band. My solo comes at about 3 minutes in...
This is our first collaboration, and I'm already working on the next one. But, here's the first ruff mix... Roy 'I Gotta Change' http://basstardz.dhs.org/cinamafixer/gotta%20roy.mp3 |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Cinemafixer and Roy,
Great work! It took me about 10 attempts to connect to Da BaSsTaRd's server. I assume that was all the internet airplay going on when the whole DUC tuned in to hear you're new work. Keep it up guys! Cheers, Mark |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Mark... I think the server's happenin now.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Cinemafixer - great stuff!! I had a listen to Immortal and love it. Vox need to come up in the mix though - and I LOVE the B3!! Although it takes over a bit in the mix sometimes - a little comp/limiting needed, maybe?? Just a thought...
Speaking of Hammonds, can I pick your brains on how you set the organ up (drawbars, vibrato/chorus, how much overdrive etc.) & miked the Leslie? I just got a C3 and 122 Leslie a fortnight ago and I LOVE your recorded sound. I don't want to stray too off-topic here, so should I email you or does everyone here want to know how to get a great Hammond sound?? |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Drawbars and vibrato chorus are things that I can't really advise you on, too much. I can tell you the following, though. for comping on that track, I used the lower manual set to approx. 008850000 - the upper was set approx to 888655068 - moved ar ound quite a bit. When I wanted more uumph, I pull the 4th,5th and 6rh out more - when I want it brighter (like on the bridge), Ill shape it to around 848000048. Experiment with the leslie fast/slow and C-3 vibrato setting - the vibrato interacts with the Leslie on the fast setting - gives more bite and growl - paddier sounds come with leslie slow no vib. By the way, the numbers Im using refer to the order in which the drawbars appear for each group (there are 9) and the numbers themselves refer to the volume of each bar. Three mics - left/right high on the CORNER of the box (the closed corner to resuce wind noise)- 2 condensers in a 90 degree angle. The bottom I use a 421 or 4050 or re-20 on the far side positioned to reduce wind noise. the crossover in the leslie crosses over at 800
HZ, so remember that the bottom mic is all the meat of the organ - don't neglect it - the tops can be low passed at 8k to eliminate noise from the motors etc. use the tops sparingly - just add persence and image with them - otherwise your sound will be cold and brittle - Not what you want from your organ! |
