Importing DVD Audio/Mpeg audio

Is there any way to import a section of audio directly from a DVD?
I have been having trouble importing MPeg audio, also... is there an easy way to do this?
Import Audio from current movie.. does the movie have to be playing in Quicktime?

I have to extract audio from several live performances..some mpeg, some dvd...
thanks,

Re: Importing DVD Audio/Mpeg audio

You need to convert the DVD from it's own format to readable formats. There are programs such as DVDxDV and Roxio Popcorn that do this but they can take a long time and they will not work on copy protected material. And, keep in mind that audio on DVD Video is likely compressed and uncompressing it to AIFF or WAV will permanently downgrade the quality. Best to get the files from the source before they were encoded for best quality. If in fact you are referring to DVD-Audio this might be harder. And there are no affordable MAc solutions to author let alone reverse engineer these (that I know of) The Minnetonka Mac DVD Audio product is very basic and does not support high resolution audio.

Hello. Try this. It creates QuickTime movies. That way you can import video and/or audio as a QuickTime into a Pro Tools session.

Unless you're desperately picky about the audio quality, then if you have lots of little snippets to pull from a DVD, here's something that works pretty well:

You just set it to 'hijack' the audio from DVD Player, and you can hit the record button whenever necessary as you play the disk.
