Noisy HDX Cards
Has anyone figured out why these HDX cards are noisy. I have been working with this system for over a year and suddenly the cards are now crazy loud in the Sonnet chassis Express 3. Anyone have a fix for this? Why all the sudden? Avid, please do not put fans on HDX cards.. they are WAY too loud.
Any warranty on these? |
Re: Noisy HDX Cards
I think were at a point in time, (due to age) that HDX cards are suffering with fan issues.
Avid should make this spare available, as it's very easy to change them in less than 10 minutes. |
Re: Noisy HDX Cards

Re: Noisy HDX Cards
The fact is I have been using these cards for a couple years now and it never made the noises it is making now. It is REALLY loud. There is no way to know if they are over heating, as I don't think the digi test apps works anymore.. I feel for the price I paid for these cards about 2 years ago, should not be causing me a issue this fast. It really makes me question investing more money with Avid. I would like to know a solution. I can post a video of how loud it is.

Re: Noisy HDX Cards
Do take the time to see where you placed your cards, the vibration of the sonnet box might be amplified due to the desk, or wall or something touching it? Also, if for some reason there's dust in the sonnet enclosure, then the heat will have a harder time to dissipate making the fan run faster for a longer time, hence the millage will go up faster and the fan life time will be shorter.

Re: Noisy HDX Cards
When my HDX fans broke Protools pops a message saying it’s not working and must be fixed. I sent to avid tech and they changed for a new one on the same day. It was not that expensive. I would try that.

Re: Noisy HDX Cards
You can buy fans direct from Avid (or contact a dealer and have them put the order in.) The swap is extremely simple. Takes longer to get the card out of a system than to swap the fan. They cost $29.80 without shipping. (insane pricing for a little fan).
I'll update if I can find a picture I took of the fan module. It has the OEM number on it and I think I looked it up at the time and it was less than $5 as a part. |
