Chase SMPTE (LTC) with Motu 2408mk 3 or 828mk3

Hi All,

Just trying to find out if Pro Tools 9 will chase the SMPTE (LTC) Timecode input on a Motu 2408mk3 or 828mk3. I understand that the Motu interfaces will take incoming LTC and convert it to MTC resolved to Word Clock or Video Ref.

Thanks!

Same question here, but on the Mk3 Ultralite... timecode works great with this in Logic 9. Really hoping PT 9 would read it the same way.

Knowing Avid/Digi, they put in an artificial limitation that makes this not work unless you buy a pricey expansion, but I hope I'm wrong!

GOOD NEWS!!! Loaded up PT 9 LE with the Complete toolkit that I already had. Loaded the newest MOTU driver which you have to do in order to be compatible with PT9... generated TC from a Sync I/O into a MOTU Ultralite mk3. After changing a few settings, PT is now chasing timecode. You just have to go into the Motu SMPTE setup application, which I believe is part of the driver setup anyway, (in Mac Applications Folder) selected SMPTE source analog input 1 which is where I input the TC cable into the Ultralite, selected SMPTE/SMPTE clock address on the setup, and the TC started playing in that window. When I went to PT and hit the sync button... instant lock! I'm VERY happy!!!!

so PT9 will only lock to SMPTE w/ a Complete Prod. kit? what are your settings in PT? Thanks

No. Pro Tools without CPT will chase MTC. You just need something like the MOTU hardware that converts analog LTC (SMPTE) to MTC.

Right, Thanks, I have used MTC via a JL Cooper box. PT will recognize the Start but drifts over time from the SMPTE originating on a striped track of my Teac 80-8. I think I need my SMPTE to resolve to Wordclock, but the TEAC cannot reference Wordclock, etc..I wonder if there is a box that can do this?
The ultimate dream is to slave PT9 to the deck for frame accurate transfers..
I also have a WamiRack, but no drivers for Win 7...but even so, I still might be in the same situation as with the JL Cooper if it cannot reference the speed not just location...Any ideas?..Rail mentioned the Avid Sync I/O in another thread..

I don't understand why you're worrying about resolving to wordclock or blackburst. If you only want Pro Tools to chase the tape, then you don't need anything else.

Where problems come in is when Pro Tools is not chasing the correct frame rate. Choose the correct frame rate in the Setup>Session dialog and get on with life. Personally, I would use Pro Tools to print the SMPTE to tape and then I would have Pro Tools chase it.

Also were you Jam syncing or chasing

Pro Tools generates SMPTE? Back when I had this rigged (this is all theory until I can get my rig goin') , I thought I was chasing vs. jam syncing, but when should I use one vs the other? I'm sure I would have chosen the same frame rate in PT that I striped to tape...Thanks
