Just droppin back in after a 5 year absence!!!!

Mainly to say hey to Mr. RH, creator of this great thread......

Still got my ole 001 that I have to dust off, basically starting to get back into the music thang, last thing I produced was back in 2004. I still have PT5.1, I think?? LOL

I have to put together a new system (still got my PIII with 256 of RAM!), upgrade my PT software if need be and IŽll be back in business.

I have lots of questions, but IŽll post them in another thread, meanwhile IŽve uploaded a couple of tunes to my friendsŽ site www.myeband.com. (once you register, go to downloads, and then "jorge")

If somebody here would lend me some space to post my stuff, IŽll be glad to e-mail them....

cheers to all!

Koe,
Dig it! Seeing I was one a huge goth/techno fan it reminds me of Puppy meets Nitzereb with a twist of Old Ministry. Now tie a bit of CombiChrist in there and you are set.

Good stuff.

jimbojimbo,
I listened to the first two songs. You are very talented! In holding on I really liked the way the drums and guitar sounded! The burden of knowledge sounded great, I loved the vocal sound and flow! Sounded very professional to me! Later, Tim

new studio

Heres our new work. brand new studio. Some of you know what I was using before. I had to get rid of all that, it wasn't working for me . Now I have all new pres, mics and specially the new monitors are making a huge difference in my mixes. New converters as well. And most importantly this is my new band of brothers. I've decided to put together all the people I've recorded over the years that I respect here in L.A (about 4 people ha!) into a brand new "super" group ( ) We have lots of material but this is our first finished song. As usual I'm playing guitar and producing. So here it is:

Nice JOz. Very Power Pop, almost on the brink of a little more hip hop into her vocals this time around. Like the drums too. Very punchy.

Cool deal.

Hi Joz.

I am "afraid" I am with Inteldoc here.... I am always looking forward to hear
your stuff. Great performance and very "tight"/"narrow" sounding production. Always
a pleasure to listen to your recordings and this one definitely no exception.

But personally I would like to hear a lot more about your new gear, studio etc. too .

Best regards,

luffe

Very cool stuff. Your website says that you do not drum replace. Great kick sounds for no replacement. RE20 on the kick drum?(from your equipment list). What are you using for overheads? Guitars sound pretty thick and plenty of room for the vocal. Wanna share the chain for recording the guitars and how you leave so much room for the vocal? Panning, eq, etc?

Cool bands, that obviously helps.

Hey guys, long time no chat (Doc, Roy, Joz and others I didn't go pages back to catch yet). man, I've got some downloading to do here.. you guys have been busy. hehe I'll work on that this evening.

in the mean time I put together a record/collaboration of sorts if you will from tracks I've written over the past year and a half and their final versions. Its called "How Can I Be Afraid" and you can download for free of course. I've collaborated with some of the best including fellow DUC'ers, Almost Famous, and a couple others on a couple tracks.

short of this project though, I haven't been workin on music for a while. Photography has sorta been my other creative outlet for a while now.

hope you guys are cool and I'll post back as soon as I've had a chance to get through the archives of pages and download all the latest.

I feel a little sheepish going next.

Anyway here it is

I'd really like some feedback on this one. This is a track I just did for my new solo project. It's about 90% done... I need to fix the vocals a bit and add some harmonies. Production wise is there anything that jumps out at you that doesn't sound so good?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Koe.

Koe, nice work on this one, I like the diversity mixing it up with the goth/techno and slowing down, speeding up kinda thing for this. Honestly for constructive criticism, I'd have to say the intro is a bit long man. I'm not going to say go mainstream and cut it to fit pop radio or anything caus you are doing what you're doing and thats awesome, but most listeners get bored and will change to something else after the first 30 seconds of a song, so maybe I would have done it 30 second intro, 2 bar into the sped up techno instrumental part, then do like a reverse vocoder type effect into the first verse and it would be cool. Other than that though, the instrumentation is really cool and I dig the goth vox. The screaming part at about the 3:38 mark is really cool to bring it home dramatically as well and the matrix type fade out at the end is very cool too. nice work over all.

desperation beauty

Roy, long time no chat man. Great composition and instrumental piece. I'd have to say my favorite part of the track was that little bit right in the first 20 seconds where you did the strum that had some form of fade effect on it man, just seemed to paint the whole soundscape right there. hope all is cool. peace

Enjoy,

Doc/Chris, man your mixing skillz have got mad skillz dude! I am not digging the vibe of the PolyJane just caus I honestly don't like her voice man (think she's singing too high for her range and style), but the mix is awesome and the Annex stuff you did is great man! Tommy sounds like he's heading in a very Dave Matthews direction on the one track man as well, but I dig it. Keep up the great work and great to see you are up and running with the new studio man. peace

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

'-) She is a good gal, and the next record will be better. They tracked elsewhere and I just mixed it. It really turned out better than I thought and they let me have a little creative backing on the mix side. That was fun. Drums were totally fixed and vocals tweeked. Mastered by Bob Olhsson which was awesome! Highly recommend it.

Tommy's song is an old one that was written about my bad divorce. GREAT TUNE! Mixing some new stuff by him now that is really RAW.

The ANNEX stuff is cool. Those guys are really a great bunch of dudes.

Thanks for listening. Sorry you did not care for the vocals.

The downside on the re-mix is the mastering plugin. Why Ozone give a light version with absolutely no customization is beyond me. Still I am very happy with it. I still find mixes will be as good as the next part of the process allows it to be. So it shouldnt matter what the platform is.

If the recording quality is [bleep] then you can only do so much to make it good. But some can mix better than others.

Got a new one up on my player by an old clients new band. Turned out better than I hoped for the fixes that needed to be done. "Ealastic Audio" is my new best friend. Achieved a very nice analog warmth with it too. Pretty happy overall.

Here's my first stab at recording on Pro Tools. I'm 18 years old with no formal education on recording. I'll be attending IPR in minneapolis beginning this july.

http://www.myspace.com/timmckitterickrecording

Any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. This is my old band. We recorded it about a month ago and have since broken up.

Vocals are crude. We recorded with a Beta58 without any pop filter or mic stand. Drums had a beta57 on the snare, a beta58 on the kick and 2 [bleep] dynamic mics as stereo overheads.

Not bad for a first time in my opinion. I do not hear a bass and it could use one in the left(lick playing gtr side) if you have one. The lyrics are a little hard to hear but Im sure its due to the mic. other then that good job.

Re: Overnight Lows

Thanks to everyone for the feedback! Sorry I haven't been here for awhile.

------

superpenguin79 - I agree with you, the intro is a little offputting being that long... personally I like that awkwardness, but I know it's not a great way to catch people's attention. Maybe a mix with a shorter, more attention-grabbing, intro is required, then maybe the full into mix on an album or something?

Teolin - Thanks! That comment really made me smile. haha.

IntelDoc - Thanks alot. Yeah I was listening to the first Skinny Puppy record quite a bit when I wrote that. Well picked! haha

------

Here is a remix I did of one of my newer tracks. Artistically, I like the original better, but I really dig some of the sounds in this mix and the overall harsh-clubby feel. I hope you guys will too!

Hi DUC!

Here's a take I performed over backing tracks created in Pro Tools LE, Reason via Rewire and a MIDI controller. I also use Eleven on the guitar track. MIDI was recorded in Pro Tools LE. The interface I used was DIGI003. Used a combination of waves and 003 Factory plugins.

Hi,

I'm writing a soundtrack for a computer game a friend is making and this is a song I've written for it. I love to write music, but production is all very new to me and I've found it quite challenging. I'm sure there is probably a lot wrong with this, nevertheless I welcome your feedback and advice about how I can go about improving it.

Also, if anyone has any general advice on how to learn this trade it would also be really appreciated.

thanks a lot - thread

Sunrise is pretty freakin' cool!

I'll step aside from the helpful technological commentary and report that it is simply an enjoyable listen and a cool concept.

I had it playing while I was browsing. I swear the "oo" in Google started winking at me....
