Bob, I imported the 2 mixes into a PT sesh, and A/B'ed em side by side. I listened on a pair of JBL speakers(average to good stereo speakers), and the overall mix sounds good. I don't know about your friend's exact playback setup(is there any added EQ he's using?), but your mix is far from sounding 'horrible'. I'm about to get some Genelec 1030s(or equivalent), so that may make me more picky... How did it sound on the other 3 setups you mentioned? -Roy |
Re: New mix updated.
Roy... Everything sounded pretty decent on the speakers i tried. I am starting think maybe there is something wrong with my friends speakers(no added eq). I was surprised by how they sounded i guess. He had about 3" of water down where he records a couple months ago and some light construction is going on also at this moment. I wonder if something happen during that time.
Have you ever tested Bluesky monitors? BlueSky 2.1(would like to go 5.1 someday)or pick up LA 610 or Vintech73 preamp. I'm at a crossroad on which to get first. Any input on which you way you might go first? Monitors or preamp. |

Bob, I haven't had a chance to hear the bluesky monitors, but I hear they're nice. On monitors vs. preamp.....hmmm...tough call. Both can make a big difference to your mixes. (I know I'm no help... ). I'm about to do a major upgrade myself, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with Genelecs(1030's). I'm getting advice from some friends on this. Aussie169(Mark) and I went over some of the things I need recently and came up with this list just for starters. UpgradeList -Roy |

thnks Roy,
That was my intro to my record , but the whole body of work was jacked from my studio. It is probably sitting under someones bed collecting dust. So much for earning what you got. |

WestPhillySoulzition, Man, I sure hate to hear that...I have a dj friend here who just had his van stolen with 30k of equipment in it...no trace of the van, and no insurance on the equipment.....I really feel for you and hope that good things come back to you twofold. -Roy |
Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!
Hey Jamlaw, parasite sounds great! Well done...what mic/pre amp did you use on the bass? Did you make the drum samples yourself?
|
Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!
I used an AKG D112 mic on a 15" speaker (the bass head is a GK 1001) I always mic bass, and think it sounds so much better than DI... the preamp was a Vintech 1272 pre, and I went through a DBX 160 comp to Pro Tools (not too much comp)....
I didn't make the drum samples, and I'm not sure what they are, somebody gave me a bunch! Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate the input! |
Re: It\'s been a long time...
I decided to compile and self-release all my older tracks on CdBaby instead of letting them just sit on my drive. Some of I've posted here before, and some will be new to many. A new album will be out in a couple of months...

New album completed
Hey everyone,
I just finished an album for a client, Dan Walker and The Sky. Kind of a jack johnson meets jimmy buffett meets james taylor type of vibe. I co-produced, engineered, and mixed this album. I also played some horns, and a little tambouring;) It was mastered by Chris Cavell. You can download the full album from the duc only album release party Feel free to check them all out. Here are direct links to some of my favorites. Bones Already There Palm Tree Purple Sky This is a full production of the one we did last year "Lucky", slated to be on the best of the duc album. Lucky Everything was tracked with the Vintech 1272 except for the drum overheads (digimax LT) and the toms (digi 002R preamps) Feel free to download the whole thing, and pop it in your iPod! This was really fun job. Chris Cavell did a fantastic job on the mastering. I would highly recommend him for any of you looking for a gifted mastering engineer. Enjoy! -BigBubbaJ |

Great way to make quick money!

Off the top of my head...
This instrumental I wrote live as I was recording. All layers are done in the Triton. Only one track was recorded.

Latest Demo
Hey everyone- We just finished a demo for our band of a few cover tunes(not full versions) just to get some gigs around town. All done in ProTools LE with 6.7 and Waves Platinium, mastered with T-Racks. Any comments would be appreciated, the good and the bad! Thanks...Matt
PS- The duo tunes were recorded with a Roland VS-1680 a few years back www.the3kings.net (go to "music" section) |
Re: Latest Demo
Matt-
Music sounds real clean. You guys are talented. Very tight. Nice mixes and stuff also. As a web developer for a living, perhaps I might suggest links to mp3 files instead of all the imbedded music...not really ideal for multiple browsers and such. Kind of a hassle. Not my favorite way of doing things... Anyhow... |
Re: Latest Demo
Justin- Thanks for listening and the comments...I really appreciate it. As for the web site layout, I wish I knew how to do what you are saying. Is it easy? This was my first website and I used Webeasy Pro 5..I really am a novice at it. Any advice on that end would be great! Thanks again for listening. Matt

Re: Latest Demo
Just post your .mp3 file on the server, and make a link to it...
for example My Mp3 Pretty easy! |
Re: It\'s been a long time...
pk,
Glad to see you've got your cd going...I just went back and listened to 'Arabian'...just great stuff. -Roy |
Re: New album completed
Justin,
Hey man, the tunes sound great man... Will check them out tonight on the mackies, but man they sound nice so far. Great separation on the guitars, and you can really tell the little pieces you added to have that fill effect. Just shows what a long project can turn out.... versus the 15 year old weekend demons. Chris did a great job too! I was listening to the before and afters and they sounded great. Very clear and clean... "Doogie!" Hooked ya up! - Doc |
Re: New album completed
Thanks man. His mastering is sooo sweet it sounds good on everything I have listened to it through!

Re: New album completed
BigBubbaJ,
The mixes sound just great...really good songs too...and Chris did an excellent job, as usual. Great job overall. -Roy |

Thanks for listening. It was a really fun project to work on! |

2 new songs.
Suomi kokonaiseksi tells how Russian occupy some Finland's area. map Ura is about politics. Nowdays gifted men do not want to mix with politics. I have some new gear in Ura. Vocs have no plugs, only reverb send. Who guess what I have? All comments are welcome, negative or positive. |

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!
The new Project Vector CD, Reality Show, is finally out. Recorded with a Digi 001 and Dual G4/450 (as well as a number of softsynths running on a PC laptop, NI Kontakt and the PPG Wave 2.V being the most dominant ones). I was quite the Rush-head on my last CD...this one brings a strong techno influence into the mix, combined with a fair dose of prog sensibility that's still in evidence. In other words, it's a little weird. But then, so am I, so it probably suits me.

Hello everybody
I have a 2 new Instrumentals called "Slipped on heaven" and another instrumental called "Alien Nation". I hope you all check them out and enjoy. -Bob |
Re: 2 pc
Bob- Very cool and interesting music. It definitely wasn't what I was expecting, then again I don't really know what I was expecting! They sound like soundtracks to a movie or a video or something...very cool. As for the recording quality, I found myself absorbed in the music and not paying much attention to the mixes, which in my estimation usually means the mix is good! Very balanced...cool transitions and cool panning effects. Enjoyed it! Matt

New CD is Out
Hey Roy, hey guys. Sorry to have been a stranger around here so long (to say I've been busy this past year doesn't begin to cover it, LOL).
The new CD, Reality Show, was released last week. All done with a Digi 001 once again, with the addition of a PC laptop for various softsynths (NI Kontakt and the PPG Wave 2.V being the most dominant ones). Those who might remember my last disc will recognize the rather hyper bass playing, but I've brought a pretty strong techno/electronica/industrial influence into this one. Here are a couple of MP3s...more samples available via the audio page on my website. "Out of the Closet" (320k mp3) "Acid Rain" (320k mp3) |
Re: New CD is Out
I check out your songs Rational Punk. Good stuff and nice production. I like the changes in Out of the closet.

I think the kick was two kicks from Reason's Factory sound bank blended together then sent through an 1176 plug-in to tighten it up and get it popping. Vocals are probably due to the singer rather than the equipment or recording technique. |
Latest Stuff...
DR.Loop,
'Slipped on Heaven'.....beautiful song...nice sounds. I recognized the 'Alien Nation' music, but see you changed the title...(was 'Cover my face at night', right?)...good stuff, as usual. -Roy |
Re: Latest Stuff...
Thank you Roy....You are right with Alien Nation. I took some stuff out of it and remix it. Nice catch.
