2021.3.1 iLok Activation

Hello all,

I originally posted this on the Pro Tools 2021 thread, but realize the issue I'm having would better be suited here.

I am encountering an odd issue which I would like to resolve immediately. I was working with PT 2018.4 for the longest time and decided to upgrade to the most recent 2021.3.1. I downloaded and installed PT and for some reason PT is asking me to activate. So I click "activate" and it prompts me to my iLok account, which then I pointed it to my iLok that's already plugged in, and it doesn't see my license.

I have a perpetual license and on the annual upgrade plan. I work on a PC Windows 10.

This is really bizarre so I'm hoping someone can shed some light and help me fix this issue. Thanks in advance!

Probably a dumb question, but is your license up to date? If the RELEASE LIMIT of your license is older than release date of PT software, it will not run.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Not a dumb question at all because I’m not quite sure what the release limit is and means. In my ilok manager it says 10/11/12 and the Ultimate Perpetual. As far as I know, since I have the annual upgrade plan, I thought that I can download older and/or current versions of PT and it should be able to run. Am I missing something.

See the details of your license, it says RELEASE LIMIT and a date. You can use any version released on or before that date.

In the ilok manager my PT license has an “expiration” column and it says never next to my license. Is that what you mean?

No. Go to the details section of the license

Maybe your licence is not updated to the release limit of your support plan.
Try to deactivate it and reactivate it again.
As mentioned before. You can see the release limit when you click on your Protools licence and then on details...

Thanks for all your input everyone. I’ll go ahead and check that soon. If by chance the release limit date is older, what would I have to do to fix it? Would deactivating and then reactivating my license again resolve it as you suggest?

You need to have active support and update plan

Which I do have. That’s why this whole mess is very odd. Any suggestions on my end that I should try before contacting AVID?
