oh yeah roy, the stephen inglis album was recorded on an 80's trident board going straight to 2 inch. IMHO i thought the vox and guitars really had a rich sound. the bass was thru tube tech comp into the board, very minimal comp used. thanks again for listenin'...mykhal

Thanks Roy, glad you like it !!

Do you have any difficulties in hearing the music, or can't you find what the music is ? Anyway the site should also be in english in a week or so... I made the whole music, these are extracts of my album under the name -i snor, and the titles should normally appear when you listen to anyone of them. By the way, what did you like most ?

Well, I guess I can still improve it...

Anyone else ?

Thank you Roy. The distorted guitar was a Schecter into a dual rectifier with an oversized mesa cabinet. The clean was a PRS Custom 24 direct.

I saw that somebody used You Send It to put up their song, so I used it to put up Caustic Lye: Under My Breath . It says the link will expire in 7 days (2 days from now). I figured when the link finally dies, I would just upload it again to "you send it" if I need to, then edit the original post to put in the new link.

alright, it's been a little bit, but finished recording 2 songs yesterday. Had somewhat of a time restraint to do everything on these 2 songs in 1 day, but I still think they came out good. the band is happy, i'm happy. tried some different stuff with the snare that I really liked.

alright, got it up caus the server people apparently got my hosting working this morning magically......

Its a rough working acoustic demo of a song I wrote at 1:30am last Sunday night after a friend of the families daughter got shot and was killed.

btw... for those who may be interested, this is a track with the new Takamine I got a couple months ago. Did a combo of direct box and room Mics panned a couple different ways for the sound.

The track is called: "Life's So Short"

Wicked-Mama,
I found and listened to a few of the songs...very interesting and creative stuff... Again, the website itself looks fantastic, and will be even better when you add the English titles. Great job on the site.

Hello all

I have a new tune here called " Buzz ". It is a rock instrumental. In "Buzz" there is a click or chirp in the mix that shows up here and there. It's from a new pick i was trying out. I didn't realize it until it was too late. I was not into rerecording all again.

DR.Loop/Bob,
Nice track...well played...it reminds me a little of Focus/'Hocus Pocus', but is of course unique in itself. I also like the 'chirp pick' sound...adds character to it...

Well done...

Yann - cool site.

Roy - great arrangement on Paint the Desert Wind.

Here is someone to watch out for in the future. Her name is Rebecca Perkins. I met her in a singer-songwriter competition where we were adversaries...now friends. Recorded a 3-song audition CD for her (for a folk festival).

Summer House
Likeness of You
Warm Body

Anyway, thought my Mbox measured up to the task for this demo...but I think the room was a little echoey. Wood floor, bare walls, my fault. Recorded live, two Beta 87A's, she plays a Martin. Used DVerb and Digirack Compressor. This is my first try at recording someone other than myself.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Another rough mix from the band tonight. Need to get the kick out a tad more... Guitars are cut at the beginning, but not at the end. Still working that as they did not play to a grid, but I was able to duplicate and cut and paste them pretty easy. Got to use the new SM-7B tonight on the vocals along with the new (and working meter) 1176. Yep! Bought a second 1176 and it looks sweet in the rack. I am please with the mic so far, but it is an entirely different beast. Ran it to the X73i and into the 1176. Sounds pretty good I think. The bass was the RBI into the other 1176 and then the Apogee.

Hopefully will mix this more tomorrow night. They are back in to finish the rest of the stuff tomorrow. I also added the intro part and took the 4 cymbal (bell) hits off. did not like it.

NHD - LIE

Any ideas are highly appreciated.... It has been busy and my ears are dead. Need to get that kick out a tad more I know.... ran it in pretty hot too....

rough mastered too...

Doc,

Sounds really good. I like the guitars/bass. To my ear the snare & the vox could be brought forward in the mix, along with the kick like you said. Maybe a touch (more) of quick delay on the vox? What d'ya think? They sound good though. Cool intro too!

Scott,
Agreed on the snare... possibly the vox. Still working it. Mainly I was cutting up guitars last night. I ran a pretty hot session and actually had my master fader down like -8db to stop any clipping. I have been approaching the levels a tad differently lately and they seem to work. Anyways, I will listen to it in the car and at wrk to get ideas.

Thanks though for listening.

Will look into the delay too..

Superpenguin,
Thanks for the comments. I am working on finishing that one and 3 others up soon. The others actually I like better. Some more than others, but things are seeming to gel better on the others? I need to cut and work on some eq stuff with the LIE song. I am getting into some new bad habits and need to get back to my old ways rather than experimentation. Too hot, etc... Kick and Snare were put in pretty hot. Sounded good to my ears, but maybe a little too harsh. No telling, but I think the sounds in general were good. The guitars I liked a lot. The Distressors really helped out. That Bogner cabinet is definitely getting its workout. Well worth the $$$ spent on that one. I also am diggin' the Shure SM7B that I am using on the vocals now. For Rock and screamers it is perfect. Either though the 1272 or X73i to the 1176 or the Distressor and you are set. Nice little combo.

I will post it again and the others once I am done if they want me too.

Thanks again,

- Doc

I checked it out. Sounds really good. Vocals are really nice. ONly thing I'd say is teh snare bothers me a little. My issue is with the "ringing from the shell" Sounds like it may have been a metal snare drum. I personally don't like the ring, however it can be to your advantage if it's pitched to the same key as the song. Right now it's higher (some where around the fourth/6 semitones I think, but I'm not near a keyboard). My two cents, sounds really good though! Nice work

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Doyle,
Beleive it or not that is a wooden TAMA snare. Nice one too... but he tuned it that way and insisted on it. I can gate it out though when I get into the mix. I think that I am going to buy another snare to mess with too.

The SM-7B on vocals was pretty sweet. Picked it up the other day when I bought the other 1176. It is nice to have 2 now. Track bass and drums usually and it is nice to have that to use on snare and have another one for BASS. May try it on the kick too, but not sure..

Thanks for listening... stillrough, but will tighten up soon...

You're welcome. I am listening to it again right now actually and I definately hear what you mean about the SM7B on the vocals. I wonder how that would work paired with just a normal SM57 for a screamer/rock vocalist? sort of like taping them both together. Eh, I'll have to add one to my wish list to try it out with a 57 sometime. lol I agree with Doyle about the snare though for sure now that I am listening to it again. Snares are meant to guide the song and that one just isn't the right tuning for it. Needs a little more of a phattened pop to it sort of, but if the drummer insists... whatcha gonna do I guess? anyways, experimentation is never a bad thing as long as you know how you like doing things normally. I have seen a couple sessions that have blown the original idea's out of the water and sounded ten times better with experimentation, but like you mention sometimes it can go awry also.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey Doc,

I think the mix is quite good. The guitars work well. I think I'd leave the vocals where they are, as I dont think louder vocals are suited to that kind of song. The only thing that bothers me is the snare, its not the ringing but the sound of the snare itself. It sounds too little and I dont think it fits in with the style of song. It doesnt have enough beef for my taste but each to their own. Thats more preference than anything else.

How did you record it? Maybe it just needs to be a little more upfront.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Chris,
I agree with the snare, and will tweek it, again this was a rough mix. The guitars are cut for the first 30 seconds which you will hear. The rest of it has not been cut. I need more snap, and more kick. The snare is HOT HOT HOT as Cavell can attest to. He is looking at some stuff for me to isolate some issues I am having. I tend to record stuff HOT to get a sound that I desire. The snare is HOT!!!!! kick is TOO HOT!

Here is what the kit looked like in my little drum room.

DRUMS

typical 57 into the X73i, 11776 and then to the Apogee Rosetta 800.

May try to use a dup track with sound replacer and add a pop.... Gate may help too.

I wish I had half the gear you've got!

I would love to be able to record drums for all my tunes but I just dont have the equip or space.

I think the guitars sound great. I just dont know about the snare. In a lot of todays modern rock songs the snares sound almost like sample snares rather than real recordings. Its very good for a rough mix BTW.

Take Dave Matthews Band for example " American Baby" That snare to me sounds nice and has a sample like quality but how do they process it to get that kinda sound?

I think gating it may work. I'm not sure what else to try. I'll look forward to hearing the tweaked version.

As for recording hot, When I crank my penta up, it just sounds crappy lol. Damn Focusrite and their cheap crap! I need a good pre but student times are hard.

I think i'll go record something now since I'm in the mood.

Ok fellas....here are a couple tunes I just finished up for a local band. They jut wanted to get a quick demo together, so we didn't spend a ton if time (9 hrs tracking plus mix/master). I think it turned out pretty good for my first "rock" mix. I think the cymbals get a little loud, but all in all not bad. Let me know what you think.

he Doyle,

Flying sounds all balanced to me, cymbals not too dominant. Good guitarwork from the guy.

Hopping to Eye for an Eye now, I like the phazer over the guitar, all in all very vivid music. Good work from the band and the mixes sound balanced to me.
