Hey Folks,

We have a new collections of beautiful steam whistles over at Rabbit Ears Audio.

Although steam whistles emerged in the mid-19th century as a warning device, they quickly became the rail industry’s iconic sound. Many railways even cast their own whistles, branding the sound of their particular train line. REA_017 features a variety of whistle types from North America including 3-chime, 6-chime, and single note hooters (there is even a bonus whistle from China).

The whistles were recorded while the steam engine was stationary with no electrical system running. This means the whistle blows are completely isolated from any other train noise. REA_017 provides pure steam and the flexibility to place whistles wherever you need them.

The collection is a whopping 8GB and 527 files. Each take was recorded from multiple microphone perspectives at 24/192.

Hey Everybody,

Our newest library NYC Ambisonics was released today! We recorded ambiences all over New York City with a SoundField microphone, and it sounds incredible.

NYC Ambisonics – Pro Sound Effects

Really excited about this one as it is our first library in the Ambisonics format. This format allows you to control the direction and polar pattern of "virtual microphones" with the included SurroundZone2 software from TSL (AAX, VST, AU). You can decode the "B-format" versions to mono, stereo, 5.1, 7.1, and beyond. Very useful for controlling the width and tweaking to taste.

In addition to the B-format (quad) files, we've also included stereo renderings of the entire library in case you'd prefer to use the sounds right away without any processing. There are 53 recordings that come in just under 7 hours (over 40GB).

It's been a while since I've posted anything. I've rebuilt the bones of my site and started using Amazon S3 servers to hopefully provide faster/more reliable downloads.

We've been busy at Undertone Sound Library the last weeks releasing 3 new products.

Lisbon Library
First is a lovely little collection of Lisbon, Portugal. Street life, bars and cafés recorded from the street, restaurant walla, city parks, Lisbon Metro entrance, Lisbon Metro interiors and platforms, on trains, and my favorite : men playing cards in the park.

Commercial Bakery
Commercial bakery is a collection of sounds from a large baking facility - Gigantic food conveyors, Industrial Mixers, Commercial Cookie Cutters, Walk-in Ovens, Electric Fork-lifts and more!

Cooking and Food-Prep
This last one is a MASSIVE Cooking library with over 1400 files totaling close to 9 hours recorded over the course of 7 years. For those of you who work on cooking shows, dump 'n stirs, or just have a cooking segment in a TV show or film, this is for you! Every kind of cutting, chopping, dumping, pouring, stirring, whisking, tapping, banging, scraping, opening, tossing, grating, mincing, pounding, and much much more. Boils, sizzles, flames, etc. Just about every cooking and food prep sound you'd need. 3rd Floor is our first ambience special and contains over 2 hours of indoor atmospheres. It features a wide variety of room tones – ranging from small offices, utility rooms, toilets, hallways and cellar compartments to large open co-spaces and staircases.

These ambiences are quite, but not dead. They work great as a single room fill or can be used as additional background layers.

Hi All,

We just released a collection of Grassland Prairie wind. I wanted to capture the prairie before the grasshoppers, crickets and cicadas were out, but what I found instead were 2 very blustery days of 20-40 MPH winds. Lots of tall grass blowing, open fields, some pine tree, some deciduous, but mostly open. Many files of intense winds. There is only the occasional bird song. But at one point, two hawks were tussling and diving in the winds and flew over the microphones making one of the coolest sounds I have ever recorded!! It's included on the end of the soundcloud demo.

Of course, 24/96, QUAD, and full Soundminer Metadata implementation.

We've got a nifty new little library from a Music Concert I recorded and mixed from a local Cathedral. I pulled out the crowd gathering, exiting, applause, and the most useful of all, in-between quiet roomtone with the occasional movement, isolated cough, and settling. This is useful for a church scene, a concert scene, or any large space scene where you need minimal movement.
