toddamo,
Nice work on both productions...I especially favor 'Under the Clouds'. You remind me of Phil Collins, whose voice I've always admired, yet it's your own...very cool tone and timbre to your voice. I have a song I'de love you to sing, and I'll email you about it shortly.
I can't believe the lyrics for the 2nd song, 'Hashleich', are 3000 yr. old...amazing.
thanks, Roy

Jay Terrien,
I love 'hereiam'...this would be good soundtrack stuff. It sounds like it's the middle of the night, and all is cool. Nice meeting of the basses...the fretless sounds great.
I'll be listening to this some more. Keep it up.
thanks, Roy

benjaminberry,
I do hear the Coldplay influence you mentioned on 'Round and Round'. Nice chords and synth vibe... interesting stuff. Thanks for posting it for us to hear... -Roy

Hey all, here are two new tracks from a band I just recorded and produced!
City Hall
Vienna

Thanks
Aaron J

Damm! Really, Relly KILLER!

what did you use to record those two tracks? Im really impressed.

Vocal Chain?
Drum Chain?
Guiatr Chain?
Bass?

yo Thanks! Let me see if I can remember this.
Vocals - U67->Aval 747->Distressor (Tracking)
Vocals - Rcomp->Rchan->Rvox->Q4->Digi Desser (mixing)
Drums - d112, 57 top and bottom, 421's OH's, toms, and hat. PZM rooms. no Compression Otari pres.(tracking)
Drums - Mixing will take to long to go through every track, but everything is submixed to a Rcomp+Q4 smashed aux and No comp Q4 aux simultaneously, then blended.
Guitars - mainly an Egnater half stack was used, some guits are just a Fender pro Junior I think. 57+421->Distressor(tracking)
Guitars - Digi comp ->Q4-> Renn comp (mix)
Bass - U67 on cab through RNC. Direct through Avalon 747. Direct through a Sans Amp. (tracking)
Bass - all three submixed to Rcomp->Q4->Rbass

Word, this was fun to work on, all tracked with the Digi002 except the drums which were tracked at a studio with HD. Mixed on my 002 at home.

thanks again
Aaron

Just finished a rough headphone mix on our latest piece. Something different from what we normally write...let me know what you guys think. Thanks! And of course, no vocals...yet!

Roy-O,

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for listening.

Ah...the old Phil Collins comparison. I do get that
alot along with Peter Gabriel, Michael Stipe and Dave Matthews.

And of course, the guy I really want to sound like is Marvin Gaye!
Oh well, maybe in my next lifetime... :-)

I would love to check out the track you have in mind for me.

I can be reached at [email protected].

Thanks,

xprod77...
What a cool piece...great guitar sounds and a very interesting arrangement. How many guys are in your band anyway?
I really enjoyed it...keep posting your new stuff too.

Hi Todd,
I'm just fine tuning the lyrics of the song I mentioned. Should be done in a day or so, and I'll email it to you.
Looking forward to it...
thanks, Roy

Thanks for listening, Roy...we were down to 2 (me and the drummer) but we just picked up our new singer so we are really excited. Can't freakin' wait to get some solid vocal tracks down on all these songs we have just sitting there. Final piece will be getting a versatile bass player and then on to rock star dreams, right? One can always hope! Thanks again for lending your ear...your opinion is always appreciated.

Hey, everyone.

Haven't been here in a while. I was looking for some feedback on a quickie I just did for my band in our practice space over the holiday break to basically give people an idea what my band is about. Keep in mind I was going for something a little loose and fun and not too slick.

Thanks in advance for any input.

This is indeed a work in progress that Paul Curtiz and I are writing (RH music/Paul lyrics & vocals). It's interesting because we're writing it with a film script in mind (Fa's Garden).
A fellow DUCer and fine violinist, 'nightshadecrisis'(Evan Karjalainen) played some choice violin in a couple of spots on it(intro and middle). This is a rough mix with no vocals.

unsub1/steven,
These are really good songs. I especially like 'Front and Center' and 'One and Five'. I hear a little Incubus flavor in the vocals. Given that you did this in your practice space, you did a good job, IMO.

unsub1,
On your mix, I would only suggest that the guitar is panned too hard-left, to my ears.(and only in places). I would pull it inward between hard-left and center, concentrating on the overall blend w/ the bass and drums.

Here's why I suggest this...To me, for this kind of instrument set up (pure guitar, bass, drums), if things are too separated pan-wise, they can sound as though they're in separate rooms, instead of a good separation within one room.
I say this with it being a given that it's a very good mix already. This is just my opinion towards making the mix slightly better. And again, I think these are very good songs.

x,

I really like the sound on this tune! Could I ask how you tracked the drums and if you used any outboard gear, compression, preamps, etc.. (acoustic drums or electronic)? Could use a few tips here.. thx

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks, Roy. I hear you!

Panning with 2 guitarists has always been a funny issue with me. I've always tried to emulate our stage setup and have always likes the sound of the two hard-panned guitars trading off. It's kind of a genre thing too. Sounds a lot more natural through speakers than phones.

Thanks!

steven

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks Hydrafonic! For the drums I recorded into a Digimax LT lightpiped to the 001 - I used all 8 inputs on the Digimax (8 mics). No other outboard gear was used. The drums are pretty dry too, just a bit of Waves compression and reverb. The Digimax is the best piece of gear I've purchased next to the 001/002r. Hope this helps,

X

Got something i just recorded. any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

http://www.northernlightssoftware.co...untitled14.mp3

the beginning part, is coming straight from another song into it, so it has a split second of other music, which is how i wanted it to be

i also just noticed that i need to bring it up a few decibels too...

thanks for listening!

also, i recently recorded a metal band, and they wanted some melancholy piano tracks, but since none of them knew how to play other than their respective instruments , i went ahead and did it. its fairly simple, but be forewarned, it brings to my mind the end of a very sad movie....hehe.

da BaSsTaRd, that song(angelina) is great! i love the mix of everything, it flows really well i think, and my hats off to Roy! those guitars sound soooooo good. im having this song on constant repeat...i like it ALOT. great job!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Craiz- Vocals sound really good but they should be a lot louder. Recording sounds fine but the music is weak. There's nothing going on in the background. You should know tho rap isn't what I listen to. So what do I know?? Having said that I do like the way vocals sound.

nightshadecrisis-I like the song. It is nice, but it's hard to tell the quality of the recording since it was converted at 96kbits. Try 160-192 kbits @ 44khz. Only thing I would do different is at 2:07 minutes into the song (where it gets heavy) when everything stops and there's this guitar melody- I would turn it up louder. That's all.

Hey Evan,
I like the guitars on 'untitled', though I would turn the solo parts up some. And I love the mood on 'piano'...very spooky yet serene...very meditative piece. I enjoyed listening...
Again, I appreciate your fine violin on 'Fa's Garden'.
thanks, Roy

no reason at all on that one. the drums are loops, and there's also a loop that i lifted from vinyl a couple of years ago (which explains the scritchy scratchy noise in the back). the horns were recorded live in PA by HammondX from www.globetraxters.com . that place is great. i highly recommend it to anyone that wants to collaborate. can you believe its totally free?!?!?!?!

sorry, if you want this to work, it would be <a href="http:// **site name goes here**/**filename**"> **link title** </a>, placing the correct info in the necessary spot. but, also, HTML is disables on this board. Use the UBBCode that is marked "URL" in the Code area under the spot where you post messages.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

i'd love to get some honest criticism of this recording. it's the first thing i've recorded with my protools setup. don't have the firewire drive yet, so i just set up a session and armed four stereo tracks to REC, separated out some sounds, applied dsp, and recorded the digi002 output to CD.

it *sounds* pretty good to me, but when i rip an mp3 and play it in winamp, the visualizations don't respond much to the music, which tells me that i must be doing something wrong... not recording enough of certain frequencies or something. if anyone could offer some insights or advice on how to improve things, i'd love to hear it! i know music production is a deep subject so i want to gather as many valuable nuggets of information as possible....
