Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

rogerhavoc,
I listened "Anger Management" and liked a Lot. In my mind it had a little spirit like 70´s progressive rock but with modern (read->much better) sounds. Backround guitars was great and specially those guitarharmonies. Roy´s guitar playing was more than great. Performanse was high and very tasty, original sound and style. You lookin for a singer, I read, well... worked really fine without, but then the singer must be REALLY good for the track

Jeff,
I Need You is nice and it will be good. I notice something problem rythm of acustic in about 02.52-03.00? Sound was pure and natural and I liked to hear final version, when it is ready

I Will Prevail was very clear, mood and sound was great. That kind of music I want to hear when I want to relax and I just enjoy the feeling of track. Beautiful, just beautiful

The problem was, he did it off his own back without asking, so I think he did his dash. A little common courtesy to the writer/artist goes a long way.

Probably is.... this was one of the songs we recorded w/o a click-track. The tempo varies and it was REALLY hard for the drummer to keep up with them once we got him in the studio. All in all tho, it turned out really well and really probably wouldn't be worth the effort to fix.

I'll be sure to let Randy know you liked it. Just wish we had a good place to market his instrumental stuff like that. Lots of people like it, it's just hard to decide where to put him on the shelves of a music store. =)

I was little too busy in comment before I read thread below ... Yes, I heard anger2A.mp3 just... and I have to agree, voc´s are fine, but some reason I think in my mind, that anger management worked just fine without vocal. But it was great too with voc´s... confusing

jj,
I listened to 'the night' earlier....good job on the mix. Everything is very distinct, good presence on the guitars, and Maria's vocals are cool.

I've got a few tunes on my site. All done with PTLE into a DIGI001. Basic tracking was done live, i.e drum kit, bass, rhythm guitar. Then everything else was tracked seperately later.

Thanks for checking it out.

Well, I think he should not sing during the bridge, where Roy plays his guitar solo, where the chord progress changes. That would be some courtesy already ......... It also does more justice to the original composition I think. But GJ's voice sounds good over the music, better when there'd be made some space for it in the mix. My personal taste says he gave a good interpretation but there appear to be some rules about participating in someone's project, or say contributing to ~.

Oh...you guys think so..
I was asked. Also to do whatever i wanted. So i did a solo for FUN too. Nothing
serious you know. Just for FUN in the spirit of this forum. Its not a record/contract deal.
So, i spent some time to write lyrics and melodies deciphered
where the verse/chorus/bridge within the 'instumental' mp3 and
just threw it in for FUN as if it was a non-instrumental piece.
Sorry you guys took it the wrong way.

What you do in this situation James, is you send your vocal tracks to the "owner" of the song and let him/her mix them in as they see fit. Fair enough you do your own mix for your own use, but anything that gets posted for public listening should be done by the owner, and noone else.

I'm not trying to flame you. As you know, I quite liked what you came up with. It's just not up to you to mix and post it.

peace

gracejames,

To be clear, what you were asked to do was to send your vocal tracks, alone, to Rogerio to mix, edit, and decide whether to post/not post as he saw fit. Instead, you sang and 'pasted' vocals over a stand alone instrumental and posted it. You had already done the same thing once, playing guitar on top of the already guitar-heavy 'Anger'instrumental, and posted that too without asking.

I don't think you would want someone to play guitar solos over your existing material, and then post it somewhere without even asking you first. This creates an awkward situation. For one thing, there have been other singers submitting vocals for the song too, and it has to be the writer's decision which version to post, if any.

You're obviously very creative, and I think you did a good job on your vocal take. But, it should be the writer's decision whether or not to post a mix.

Roy, thanks for you comments. Only thin in "the night" is, that in the begin of first verse she´s voc is little "down tune" (<-- I don´t know, is that a correct expression?) in some parts. And some parts she voise is too "kind", I mean those aggression parts... But I think that she evolv and that was only a demo. BTW I listened "Everyone's a Fool (for Somebody)" and what I can say? Pro dude, Pro

gracejames,
I surelly didn´t mean to critizise you and didn´t mean throw any flames in here. I visit your website and listened your stuf. 'Release Me' was so weard man, great, I loved it (maby I´m weard too) You have very good and own style and I liked it, there were tasty stuf in your website!!

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey Guys,

I am sorry for the long silence, but I got extremely busy on the last 2 weeks.
I am also sorry for what happened here, but now I am sure that we all know how the “Collaborating” thing should be.
When I wrote Anger Management , I sent a scratch version to Roy Howell, and asked him if he could do something. He did a GREAT guitar part and sent it to me on a separated track. I did my own mix and asked him if it was ok. I wanted him to be happy with the mix and yet try to keep my original ideas. In fact, his guitar was so great that I even thought about leaving the song as an Instrumental piece.
Then I heard some of the songs on GraceJames’s webpage, and I dig it. He had sent me an e-mail with his guitar ideas on Anger, and on my reply, I asked him if he could try to put vocals on it, because I liked his Vocals a lot. He sure did, and sent me a scratch part. I liked and asked if he could do the whole thing and he agreed. I sent a mix without solos, so he could be more comfortable to do the Vocals. Although he did an extraordinary job, I wasn’t expecting him to put the vocals over Roy’s Guitar.
Well, I think that part of it is my fault too… I should be more specific and clear about what I wanted. Also, I have a little language barrier, since ENGLISH is NOT my first language. I am sorry if ANGER made people ANGRY, but the thing is that, without you guys, I would never had finished this track. Roy Howell, GraceJames and Nick Rogero did a great job and showed me other points of view on this song.
Thank you very much for all your effort on collaborating. It was greatly appreciated.
Now I am going to catch up with the songs that had been posted here, and I will soon give my feedback.

Special thanks to Roy Howell, James and Nick. You guys are the best.

Peace

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Valeri, you can't upload songs here, you'll have to signup for some web space, yahoo used to provide space for free, or check with your ISP they might offer it for free without the banners. Then you have to create a web page, doesn't have to be fancy, just couple of words and the link to your song. For example, I just finished a web page with one song I mixed, it's called Separation Anxiety.
So peoples check out the song, it's on the heavy side, rated PG. I know the drums are weak but believe me I tried my best. Let me know please, criticize my mix, Thanks.

Here's a new one written with a film script in mind called 'Fa's Garden' (written by my sister, Gloria). This is a rough instrumental mix. Paul Curtiz and I are co-writing it as a stand alone song as well, and he'll be doing the vocals next.

Damn guys, Fa's Garden sounds so good. It's soothing to my ears. Kinda makes my track seem like an assault to the ears. This is my second version of this track. I made it 100% in Reason. I'll probably work on mastering it next but here it is in raw form.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Ok here's a few observations on recent song posts...

Separation Anxiety:

Very cool song. Very cool performance. Lead vocal.
Great feeling here. The guitars seemed to be
double-tracked...creating an ethereal feel. I would
prefer they be more in your face and raw...and naturally
thicker. I love the breakdown at...2:35. Very Jane's addiction.
Right? Beautiful. I love the echoed vocals on this section.
However, I think the dry/non-echoed vocal could be mixed
a little more prominently. Beautiful grind at 4:18.
Hey...I like this one!

Fa's Garden:

Well this is just beautiful...isn't it? Love the 12 string.
Very subtle strings. Super chord changes about 3/4 through.
Another winner here! I can't wait to hear it with a vocalist.
I'd be happy to give it a go if ya want to send it my way! :-)

Slamzuki:

Great fun. Original. I like that D&B bassline taken out
of the normal (boring!) Drum & Bass context. I LOVE the
funk groove it goes into about three quarters. Song
structures should always have nice surprises and left
turns like this. I've got a short attention span here! :-)
Tito this is bad. I'd really like to collaborate on
a track with you.

Hallelujah:

Hey! This is fun! I'm sure the choir appreciated this nice recording.
They sound very good.

What a diverse set of recordings! Keep 'em coming folks...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Thanks for the review, I also like that song. I guess I over did the echoes on that breakdown part, hehe..
I couldn't download the Fa's Garden.

Slamzuki- Unusual arrangement but that makes it a fresh d&b song. It sounded like the levels were too high, it was almost distorted. Especially the bass drum, that's the only problem I noticed..

Hallelujah- They do sound great, how old are these kids?? It sounds great, I thought the piano was a little too upfront.

Infected with Rage- Were you inspired by that movie 28 days later? It's a heavy song for sure sound like a mixture of Napalm Death, Paradise Lost, Candlemass, and the like. Gothic and heavy, You definitely got that sound down. I thought the snare could have been louder, it gets burried under a heavy mix like this. Overall sounds great.

Here's another song I added, called Copy Cat . It's a short song we were bored and the drummer (Brian) for the band Blind Flight played all the instruments and sings the song. The song isn't great but I believe this is the best recording I've ever done. So listen to the recording and the mix rather than the song itself, unlike with Separation Anxiety recording isn't great but the song itself is great.
Thanks for the comments, Tuvan
