Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Man, the level of (song & recording) quality is really going up around here lately!!! I’ll be throwing out some comments on some stuff in particular, when I get more time (hopefully tonight) to sit down and write. Good job guys!

Here are some recent projects of mine. I’d love to hear your feedback!

The Campaign – Some final mixes (finally!) from a contemporary worship project that I produced, wrote for, and played on. Slide on Psalm 113 courtesy of Roy “Mudslide” Howell!

Scott MacGill – “Small Comfort” - Nearly finished. A singer/songwriter/keyboardist. Drums by yours truly.

The Dimes – “Douglas in a Spacesuit” - Final mix. Brit Rock from an American perspective.

Tracey Jackson – “I Need a Haven” – Rough Mix / Still in Production. A catchy little country pop tune. My scratch vox will be soon replaced by Tracey’s. More slide fun by Roy!

Josh,
Great job on the song too, man... this would be an excellent live Christian song too. You're very talented. Good production, mix, and I really like the solo voice. Is that you? I'm very impressed. This song should be covered by a Christian artist if you're not planning to put it out yourself. Really good work...
thanks for letting me hear it... -Roy

Bi0, great work mate. You obviously had a productive week. Looking forward to hearing Ben's track.

OK, I haven't posted anything for while. So here's something we're working on at the moment. Far from finished, but all advice taken.

Don't Tell Me

Bi0... Ben,
Alright... sounds good! The vocals are so much better and the whole thing is much tighter now. I bet you guys had a whole lot of fun putting it together too. You both did a good job on it. Thanks for the listen, you guys. ~Roy

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Roy,
Thank you very much. The vocalist is an old band-mate/friend of mine named Todd Lilley. I wrote and recorded the song and had him come over and sing the parts. Luckily he lives in the same building because it was snowing like crazy in Denver! I'm curious how to go about getting a christian artist to listen to the song. I would rather see some songwriting royalties from it than release it myself. Do you have any tips? If you want you can e-mail me via the address on the page I posted. Thanks again. It's nice to hear validation from someone who is so well regarded.

Bio and Ben that track was outstanding good production nice n' tight, weel done.

Josh like your mix in "Walk the line" great guitar sound.

Mark your work is stellar (loved the snare).

Cheers all

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

That's funny Scoob, 'cause I'll putting real drums on it in a couple of weeks
They are just one hit samples that Roy gave me.
I just used them to create a beat to track with. We hate click tracks, you can't get into the groove.

Captain_Pants 03-20-2003 05:54 PM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Hey Scoob. Thanks for the compliment. It was a definately a two man job. Bi0 had written the whole thing, I just worked the production on it. The way the vox hit the song, and the way everything is brought in on this version is the best way we found it to work, we tried NUMEROUS things. Lets just say, we had 3 gigs of audio to choose from, and when we were finished with this mix, it dropped to about 560megs of files, so there was a lot of tracks and ideas that didnt fit, or didnt sound as well. This was definately the best combo of arrangement for the song. But at one time, it had a guitar solo, 6 harmonies, yelled vocals on the chorus, and it was almost going to be 1 to 2 minutes longer.

Once again, thanks for the compliments.
=-Ben

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

I actually did like it coz it seemed to be sitting above everything else (drum wise) and was bom (not boom) 2 & 4 every time, sort of like a reference point for everything else. hmmm very snare like without sounding like a snare I would record, I guess that's why I liked it different.

I was going to ask if it was midi or sampled but I didn't want to offend you knowing you are a drummer. Some people think that samples and midi don't sound good.

Have a good one.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Great song, Mark. It's got a slow, smooth groove that washes over ya.

I'm afraid I loved the drums, too.

Roy Howell 03-20-2003 06:22 PM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Especially that snare... (j/k...I haven't even had a chance to listen yet Mark, but you know I will, probably tonight). Gotta nap awhile...3 hrs. sleep last night.

Aussie169 03-20-2003 08:18 PM

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Well Scoob, when I say that I'm a drummer, I use the term VERY loosely.
I can play OK when I'm playing regularly, but since we started recording, I've hardly touched them. Right now I couldn't keep a straight beat the save my life! (I tried recently and it was embarrasing to say the least)

I like the sample sounds, but I prefer the feel of a human drummer. A good mate of mine (who is a very solid player) has recently bought an elictronic kit, so we're going to give that a whirl in the next couple of weeks. I'll be able to record the audio and midi data at the same time.

Walk The Line is EXTRAORDINARY!!!!!
I honestly mean it when I say that this is one of the best performed, recorded and mixed tracks I've heard here on the DUC.
Excellent job.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Mark,
What a great song... Brenda is just so sincere, and carries the song so well. It's a song song, and it feels good to get back to that sometimes. Also, not being prejudiced about the snare, but I think it works very well here. Remind me when we IM, I want to ask how you handle Velocity changes in say, a snare roll, using a sample like that.
Also I have Brenda's vocal on FMtonight in the PT session finally today, so I'll be working on it. Just IM me later...... great song as usual. ~Roy

maybe it's only me, but Im having a hard time finding some of these songs you guys are listening to, cause it seems as thought ya'll are using real names. Unfortunately, unless your name is in your alias, i don't really know anyone's around here.
I see these great things being posted about mark and josh's songs, but I cant semm to find them

anyone want to enlighten me?

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

metaltim,
Josh is jbartunek, Mark is Aussie169, and I am Roy Howell... I can see where it would be confusing. I think it's just that once you are familiar with someone, you tend to use their given name when addressing them. That's why I will sometimes simply use both, like say...Aussie/Mark, to keep things clear.
I'll try to always do that now...

I cannot add anything more that hasn't been already said except I echo all the compliments ! Beautiful Song.

Mark (Aussie169)
I really like this song, it has a special flow to it. The vocals are really outstanding ! Great song and fantastic performance !

Ohhhh to be able to sing, that is why 99.9% of my stuff is instrumental !!!

Take Care,
Gene

Jackson/BRB... all the songs sound great as usual, especially those fine lead vocals(and drums... ) I'm proud to have played on the ones I did. Can't wait to hear Tracey sing 'Haven' too. Be sure and post it when it's ready. Thanks, Roy

jbartunek/Josh,
Here is a song from the CD, 'Cover Me', by Brother's Keeper, a Christian pop group out of Ardent Records here in Memphis. I have 2 songs on the CD, and I thought you might find it interesting.

Roy/Roy Howell
Very cool song. It sounds great! Did you use the 001 for that track? It has such clarity and depth. Sometimes I find it difficult to achieve really lush depth with the 001. So did you write that song? Did you cut it as well? How did you price the song? I have so many questions.
Thanks!
Josh/jbartunek

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

Josh,
The 'Cover Me' CD was done at Ardent on TDM. Ardent maintains the most state of the art equipment, w/ 3 recording studios and a video facility. As a writer, the 001 works well for what I need to get done, and it does the job for the guitar-oriented things I do. I didn't write 'Blonde and Tan'(the first CD single), but it's the best example of Brothers Keeper to me. Here are the two songs written by me and Dana Key(head of A&R at Ardent), just in case you may want to listen... -Roy

Roy -

Thanks for your comments, support, your STELLAR playing, and for "hangin' out".

Josh -

I'm not seeing "walk the line" anywhere. Did you pull the post? Am I just blind?

By the way, if it's no trouble could you email me the MP3? I'd really like to hear it, but for some unknown reason I cannot access ANY geocities cites from my studio PC. I don't know what the deal is, I've tried everything.

Walk the line definately a cool track.

is blonde and tan only supposed to be a 30 second snippet repeated 4 or 5 times???

No, it should be a full song, Tim. Is that what it's doing when you download it?

Hey Roy,

I got the whole piece when I downloaded it, so the file on the server is still ok. Nice tune !

then it starts over at 47 seconds.
It plays that part like 5 times. for a total length of 3:58.

i'd really like to hear the whole song, it sounds great

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">yeh i noticed it just did the same thing on another track. Never happened before on any other songs. it might be winamp i guess, ill try and throw it in a PT session.

all my other mp3's that i've played work fine, just not your's and the last 2 i just d/l'd

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

ok well i think i found the culprit.
I use download accelerator plus, a type of download manager,
Well i just downloaded those files again not using this, and voila they work.

Weird cause i've used this to d/l files for over a year now, and plenty of mp3's.

Might be something to do with the server not liking download managers. (I've heard of that before.)

anyway B&T is a COOL song, don't have any suggestions, it sounds great as is
