Meter and metronome discrepancy

Hi everyone,

I'm running into a problem trying to write in 5/8, where the metronome is at 77 to the whole note.

When I put the meter in 4/4 the click correctly beats 77 to the whole, but as soon as I adjust the meter the click no longer beats correctly. I'm extremely confused, because the click shouldn't vary at all when beating whole notes regardless of meter change, no?

What am I doing wrong here?

No. 5/8 is eighth note beat.
There is no "whole note" in 5/8. There are ties though.

Further explanation to make this clear: a whole note (no matter what meter) is 8 eighth notes. A 5/8 bar is composed of 5 eighth notes. To have a "whole note" click starting from bar 1, beat 1, the click would go
bar 1 beat 1
bar 2 beat 4
bar 4 beat 2
bar 5 beat 5
bar 7 beat 3
bar 9 beat 1 (at which point this pattern would repeat)

Which is why this isn't a thing with odd meters.

Thank you! I had considered that, but for some reason didn't it put it together and just assumed Pro Tools was going to treat it as 77 downbeats per minute.

I've rectified the issue by setting a new tempo at whole note=(77 x 0.625), so should be good to go! Much appreciated!
