Tic Goo is a very unique and not well known style
and I am so sorry about your cornfusion.

I will post a clip of it later.

Jackson, there is something about the vocals that seems like they might be upped a notch too high...this could be attributed to the MP3 quality, which at 128 sometimes tends to slosh the drums into a mush, then expose the vocal really well. Ive noticed this on my own 128 mp3s, which are also somewhat dancy and darker.

Very good though. I know this isnt your style of music either right? Nice production though. Did you write this music too or was it Glenda Langevin? If you ever want to do any collaborative stuff, I would love to use you for your vocals or something.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Capn'

Thanks for listening! The vocals were a little loud (at the client's request), but I've since done a mix (not yet posted) with the doubled vox down lower, and I feel the voice "sits" much better in the mix. I agree with you on the MP3 thing as well.

You are correct, dance/techno is not my cup of tea, nor is it my bread and butter in the studio, but it's king of fun to play around with. I had no part in writing the song, that was all Glenda, who also writes country, pop, etc. She came to the studio with a series of sequenced parts in her keyboard including the piano, bassline, and a few blips ans blurps, and had a session singer lay down the vocals. I added most of the loops, the wah gtr part, and fuzz bass melody line in the chorus.

Just let me know if you ever want to collaborate. My schedule has been a little crazy, but I've always had fun cyber tracking with my fellow DUCkies!

If you (or anyone else) gets a chance, please give the other tracks a spin.

Thanks!!!

BRB,
Hey,I like Small Comfort. It's got a nice feel
to it. When he sings the words
'as I make my way back home' there is a pause there where I imagined a saxophone coming in from the background making it a little more haunting. Also maybe a muted trumpet could be used. Are you hearing this too?
Then near the end the sax could trail off with a solo.
Just an idea, don't hit me.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">LOL!

A muted trumpet solo is a great idea, and I just so happen to have a great trumpet player at my disposal! Actually you can hear his handywork in the song by The Dimes.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm really going to try to make that happen!

Leaving The Station MP3 Download Page

Leaving The Station is a piece composed of what was originally 2 1/2 hours of random recorded nonsense. The audio is my sister and I playing around with all kinds of random instruments/noise makers, and was recorded in an old warehouse-turned-storage facility.

The acoustics were so nice that its hard to believe that we recorded through my old iBook's built in mic, directly into Peak!

I went through and pulled samples from the raw audio, cleaned them up as best I could, and then arranged the samples until I liked what I heard.

I originally arranged the the song in Cubase 5.1, but ultimately transferred it into Pro Tools LE and 'finished' it.

Overall, I think it ended up sounding pretty cool.

hi guys, sorry I'm late...

Swap,
I had no idea The Beatles got back together just to do 'MushatootinnanyNay'!...when did this happen?...hehe... Man, that thing is so refreshing, it was great to hear. What killed me was when they really take off, and the one guy does the dakka-bukka-dakka-bukka thing in the background... Those guys are hot! Sign em up!

Inteldoc,
Great job on those acoustic guitars. Great presence and clarity, and it's a beautiful song too...I really like the choruses. As Chris said, the violin is mixed so that it sounds real, so good job there (I bet the harmonica idea would have been cool too, but it works as is). If I were there mixing with you, I would probably suggest a little more compression on the vocal, but still, great job IMOpinion...
thanks, Roy

and Sir Jackson!
Well, of course, I'm prejudiced to your own stuff in the first place, having gotten to know and play on some of it. But, it sounds like you did an excellent engineering job for these artist/clients. The one that stands out most to me is 'Small Comfort'. It's got soul and you did a great job on it. 'Oxygen' and 'Please Me' are good and done well, but 'Small Comfort' is to me, the best song. Great job...
So, isn't it about time for some new 'BRB songs'?
Thanks for letting me listen, and let me know if you need me on anything.~Roy

Roy,

Thanks man (wiping a tear from my eye).

Yes, Small Comfort is my fav as well. Scott, who's an ex-bandmate and dear friend, is a great writter, and he's not too shabby on them keys either. I'm playing drums on his stuff which is fun, cause it's really simple grooove stuff.

Michael Jessen,
This is a good song. I like the way the upright piano sounds, especially on the intro. I also think the singer's 'imperfections' are cool...reminds a little of Bob Geldolf on some Boomtown Rats' stuff. The only thing was that there's a slight distortion thing going on with the cymbals, maybe something a compressor would help. But, good song overall. Really nice... Post more when you get a chance... thanks, Roy

Hey guys,

I've been working on setting up a system to perform live webcasts of some of the concerts I record and I need a few guys to be guinea pigs to make sure it's working right beyond the network. It's streaming a copy of a concert I recorded 4 weeks ago right now. Tomorrow night is the real test run with a real show at 8:00 central. It's old school jazz with an amazing cast of performers. If anyone would like to check it out and let me know if it's actually working beyond the network drop me an e-mail and I'll send you the URL. There are some licensing issues right now, that's why I'm not advertising the url here on the DUC. Any help finding and troubleshooting any probs tonight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys, and be sure to drop me an e-mail if you'd like to catch the concert tomorrow night!

Well everyone,

thanks to bastiaan's help all the way from the netherlands, it looks like all the bugs for the webcast tomorrow at 8:00 central have been worked out. If you'd like to catch my "latest stuff" as latest as it could possibly get drop me an e-mail and I'll send you the link. It's live tomorrow, but until then I'm broadcasting an old show (4 weeks old, so I guess it's pretty recent too). I'd really appreciate some listeners and some comments. Thanks in advance to all of you that tune in and comment!

Hey aussie, well, maybe this will help us figure out what time it is in australia, I'm posting this at 7:07 am (on thursday the 10th) according to my clock. Look at the time that the post says it was posted and that should show you the difference between my time and yours. So, I guess the show is roughly 13 hours away. I'll e-mail you with the URL.

Hey Chris,
I listened to the broadcast up until 9am

Was that the way it was supposed to work?
I thought the recording would be available all day. It did sound good though.

I don't know what happened swap, I'm heading to work pretty soon. I'll be sure to have it rolling again within the hour. Maybe I'll stick in the show from two weeks ago, this one is getting kinda old.

here is an example of Tic Goo style music.
The recording is not good quality
but I think you will get the idea.

Someone Says Your Name - Jodi Marr

The skinny:
Guitars recorded and mixed to two track as a demo in California at a songwriter's camp.
Vocals and bass added here in Florida.
Drums recorded in New Jersey and imported into my session here in Florida.

I'm supposed to get the separate guitar tracks from the LA session to complete this, but the guy's a great player and he did a perfect two track mix of the guitars that sounds real good here.
Your insightful comments are welcome as always!

Bill

By the way, I think my web hosting service blows, I'm not sure...I'm getting like a 25-30kbps Transfer Rate when I test this download...but it could be my ISP...or my location. Interested to see what kind of results you other DSL or Cable guys get. Thanks.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hi Mark,
No, all the interesting sounds in 'Shut up Baby' besides bass and percussion, are samples I created with my Strat.(many sound like a keyboard, but aren't). I still haven't gotten into Kantos much yet, though I plan to see if it can be useful. Have you had a chance to use it yet?(Kantos)... also, I'm hoping we can get back together in a few weeks, if you've got the time (and Ms. Brenda)...

Re: Mac Mixes!!!!!!!!

We made a video for this song I AM, so I went back to the drawing board and spent A LOT of time remixing it. But it definitely sounds way better than the original mix I had. So much that hopefully I'm gonna get it added to a few commercial radio stations in CA (still working on that) Anyway see what you think of the mix at Mp3.com Play the first song I AM - you can link to watch the video from there, which unfortunately has the old mix on it. (Its only available on Windows Media Player 9, too which is jacked up)

Thats another issue I have - does anyone know how to make a good AVI, mpeg, or quicktime video from a VHS tape? I.e, is there freeware to DL? or if anyone can do it - I'll pay ya!

My latest is a remix of a song called I AM that my band DECONSTRUCT just made a video for. I think the remix sounds tons better than the original muddy ass mix. Go to Mp3.com to hear the song. You can also link to the video from there if you have Windows Media 9.

Unfortunately the video on the net still has the old mix on it! I've got the final version on VHS with the new mix and all - But I don't know how to convert it to AVI, Quicktime, or MPEG format. If anybody does - let me know, I will even pay to have it done if somebody out there is good at that stuff. email me at [email protected]
