Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
fab, couldn't find that jazzy.mp3 file...
I've been messin' around with the Amplitube demo and while I really like it, I simply can't afford it! I mean, if I had 400$ to spend, I'd buy THE head that I want (Carvin Legacy or Marshall JCM900)! Does Amplitude ever offer a lower cost plug-in, say WITHOUT the stomp box section? I just want the amp section, as I've got external racks of guitar effects processors!! The amplitube exchange is a cool idea! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
280-300.00 out the door at g.c. for amplitube.
I sold a great tube amp to buy it!!If I lived alone out in the sticks I would only mic tube amps!!But I have been getting surprising results with amplitube! I live in an apartment so it is about my only option! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
1)jloassbang, re: radio. This is a major contrast to my style of mix, but by golly, you really found a style that works for the tune! I likes alot, just want more bass from the bass, not the geeeetars!
2)Joz, re: get by. I really like the minimalistic approach to the tune: Well produced but not overdone. The guitar sounds are fab! This thing is tasty, I wish I had the whole tune to listen to. 3)SergeK, re: sarah. I see this one sounding great when filled out. In this raw form, i see images in my head of some of the craziest instrumentations to beef up the tune. Let me know if you plan on doing more to this one. I like the tune, but can't comment on the mix much for obvious reasons. But if it's meant to remain just acoustic and Vox, I'd try a more natural sound. Stereo mic the acoustic and barely bring in some sweet reverb. The vox seem to be missing a lot of the lows if this is supposed to be it's final form. Well, I know it may seem like I'm ripping on this tune, but I really do like it. I just see you going a lot further with it. 4)shredfit re:Mr. Right. Damn boy!!! This is nice. Once again, I love the minimalistic approach. I would have eq'ed the hat a little more, brought it down a little and added a touch of reverb to it. This is probably the only thing I can recommend. Overall, two thumbs up! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
King, this ones for you:
I'm surprised you liked sleep's vox that much, they were the one's that needed tuning but didn't get it! Getting this is pretty simple, just a good but big sounding reverb, with the predelays set to match the guitars, pretty fast so's not to sound like echoes...echoes...echoes. Make sure you calculate the predelays in the verb to match the tempo of the tune by 1,2,4,8,etc... (they didn't use a click, so I matched it by ear to the guitar delay instead) Then pull out a pretty big and wide chunk anywhere from 1k to 5k to keep it from hogging the main vox when you bring it up, kind of like you would do if the reverb were really a background vox track. This eq on the reverb also tends to keep a lot of the longer delays from being noticed, so you can really push the pre-delay volume if you've got that option. I think it works well here because of the guitar. If there wasn't that guitar, it would just stick out too much. I probably used renaissance reverb or the TC-mega reverb (I would have used our Lexicon 480L, but it croaked a few weeks prior to sessions). In a situation where the guitar isn't there to mellow out the effect, try having the vocalist try to duplicate the good take, then bury it in a quick decaying but large verb, then bring it in just above the unnoticeability point(i like that word, because I made it up ). It may work, but something like a B3 with leslie or a very mid-rangey guitar really does the trick well. I hope this helps you dial in some kool verbs kong! |

"could you bump it up a notch?"
- this thread could wind up being one of the most helpful ever for those who are new to mixing, i just hate to see it fall a page and a half behind. |

Its Great Chris! Thx a lot! I always want to learn more about this kind of "balance" between instruments and effects!
I shall try it out! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
posterchild/Jeff,
I really like 'See you next year'. It's a little like early Beach Boys, in the best sense. The organ sounds like a vintage Farfisa. But what kind of bass is that? It's perfect for this...almost sounds like a Hofner hollow body played with a pick. Cool chords too. Good job, man. thanks, Roy Gene, Well another good one for the Gene Collection, huh? Sounds good. Interesting keyboard sound.... Sounds like you've gotten much more comfortable with PT now...thanks for the listen, Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Ok, Roy (and everybody else) you are in big trouble now. I've finally decided to upload a song. Its called I'm on Board, Jack. Besides the banal lyrics, shaky instrumentation, dubious recording techniques, and wretched mastering, its not a bad song! This is my first attempt at this; boy I hope it works... Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks for the feedback, Pieter and Roy. Actually, that's a melodeon (button accordion) on the break. Pieter, you were right about that too-loud Backing vox at the end- good ears.
Yes, Roy, that in fact was the hamsters there at the end. Of course, I had to pitch-shift their vocals down about 4 octaves. Coming soon: Mock Rap from Nippamuk. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
thats the best duc song since that "i need you like a radio hit needs autotune" that was so funny...

Just got my website up and wanted any critiques of my music/mixes. The song "Catch-22" is probably a good place to start if you just want to listen to one song.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
This is the second song Paul Curtiz and I have done together, and we're well into our third Memphis/Belgium collaboration... Paul did the killer vocals, and I wrote this one. The mix is not finished, but it's coming along. We're on song #3 now, written by both of us, and it's the best yet.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy, Paul - Shame is absolutely beautiful. I'm pretty much blown away.
Roy, my compliments to you on a masterful composition/arrangement and Paul - your vocals are as soulful as ever. The production is excellent. The whole thing is brilliant. Wow. I hate you guys. |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I really like "I'm on Board", and "See you next year" both. When is some record label going to come to their senses and release a Best of DUC compilation?
Oh, and my website is finally functional, you can hear samples from my experimental new CD on the Listen Page: www.olafsdaydream.com I can't hold a candle up to you guys, but it's there. I did the website design all by myself too, my first page since '97. I'm going to go ponder the word "Farfisa" -Olaf |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks, Greg. It's a pleasure to work with Paul. That melody was rather constricting, I know, but he made it seem effortless. On the new thing we're doing, he was free to write/sing what he wanted, and so help me, he's done a superb job on it. So that's up next for us.
I can't wait to hear 'Call in My Disgrace', with all 3 of us together. thanks, Roy ChuckNKD, Superb production. I really admire your producing skills. Great songs and band. Sounds like a winner to me. Best of luck to you...thanks, Roy Greenshoe, Very nice demos...and I like how your webpage is set up, with the lyrics there as you listen. 'Catch-22' is interesting...after reading your brief bio, with the reference to Wall Street, the lyric could well apply from the perspective of someone who'de worked there(was this intentional?), though it could apply to almost any situation. Anyway, good songs... thanks for the listen. ~Roy |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
soundsurfr,
thanks for the compliments. the recording went like this: drums, bass, and 1 rhythm gtr tracked to 2inch all this transferred to PT w/RADAR(output to .wavs) taken home and cut all the rest w/001(rosetta)and even a little w/ the mbox(stock) all editing done with mbox(PC) out to wavs to go into radar for mix through a trident board mastered@the mastering lab, LA |

I checked out some of your tracks -- "Moonbeam Seduction", "Springtime Girls", "Shut Up Baby", "Tumbleweed Sunset", "Seduction", and "Shame". All of those tracks are impeccibly produced and engineered -- great job! I don't know if I'm qualified to comment from a musical perspective, since it's not really a style that I listen to... But I can tell you're really good at what you do. Several of the tracks remind me a little of Todd Rundgren's "No World Order" album, except that they're better produced (Sorry, Todd! ). I hear a little bit of a Peter Gabriel "San Jacinto" influence in "Shame". Again, great job! <hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Jeff, Thanks so much...I truly appreciate it. It's interesting that you mention those guys, because I have indeed been influenced by each of them. I could always relate to Todd Rundgren's unique sense of theory (those chords and melodies) and Peter Gabriel's approach, or...well almost everything he does...always innovative stuff. Anyway, thanks Jeff. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy, well it took the hamsters about 2o minutes but we downloaded and auditioned "Shame". Very smmmooooooov! You definately have a guitar style all your own.
On a side note, I had this weird dream last night that I attented the First Annual DUC Convention. You were the MC. Just imagine, PT users from all over the world, gathered together and swailing beer! It was total chaos! Cheers, mate. |
