Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I'm blown away. The quality of these songs is amazing. There is a depth and clarity that I have been unable to capture
I'm using a fairly basic setup. Presonus MP20 and Presonus BlueMax. I'm recording Live drums, Mic'd Gtr, direct bass (Art Tube MP), and Vox. I'd like to hear some tunes that were recorded with a similar setup. Can someone point me in that direction? I'd also like to know what gear you guys are using. I've got a long way to go and I need some help. Thanks, Jeff |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Jeffb,
as far as my vox is concerned, in this case it's a Behringer B2-PRO mic straight into the Digi001, with just a touch of Waves RenVox. Then converted to mp3 and mailed to Roy... Yeah, we like to live dangerously... |

Story tells how the great god Rha once assembled the other gods and said, "Behold the men that you have begotten by me, they utter words against me; tell me what you would do in such a case. Behold, I have waited and not slain them before listening to your words." The reply was, "Let thy face permit it, and let those men who devise such wicked things be smitten and let none of them remain." A goddess named Hathor then went down and began to slaughter men upon the earth, and for many nights Sechet trod with his feet in their blood even to the city of Heracleopolis. The anger of Rha was then appeased by an offering comprised of 7,000 pitchers of liquor made from a fruit mixed with human blood. Rha came to examine the vases and said, "It is well: I shall protect men because of this. I lift up my hand in regard to this and declare that I shall no more slay mankind." Then he got out his slide guitar and made wonderful music, drank, and came down upon many virgins. Many babies were born and that started Rock and Roll. |

jloassbang,
Killer stuff...good songs, production, all... where are you guys? thanks, Roy shredfit, Very nice... great guitar sound and nice mixing. What kind of guitar, amp, and wah are you using? Thanks, Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Hey Roy,
From Vancouver, BC That whole EP was just me and a drummer for hire. I had a guy that'd been working with protools for awhile work the controls. I think we did OK except the guitar tones. The engineer blew the tracking on those. I got myself an Mbox after so I can track at home. Having problems though with midi wandering and even some playback seems to go all over the road. I have to restart the song several times before it all plays back in time. I have no Idea why this is happening. Maybe not enough processing power. I'm using it with a P3 1ghz laptop, 512Mb ram. http://www.newhellrepublic.com |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy,
I'm usingt a POD pro but I use it s little differently. I run it through a Peavey 50/50 tube power amp and then into a Marshall JCM 900 straight cab (I think Straight cabs sound fuller than slants). I have a Hush Super C in between and an SM57. I turn off the cab simulation on the POD. Even though I've got some ok results from the POD pro direct... It seems to sound better to me to just mic the cab Oh yeah... the wah is the one that comes with the pod foot controller. Thanks for listening Shred |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Roy, i recorded the guitar with 2 57s, one on the hole and the other on the 12th fret about 10" away. The guitar sounds really tinny though. Not enough bass on it. I didnt really like the direct sound that it had but i guess i could tweak it a little. Thanks a lot.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
O.K my fellow Digians..........
Here's a little diddy you can sink yer TEETH into. BATTA BOOM BATTA BING!!! click on the DFH at the bottom. Used Amplitube for the guitars and Battery for drums! ALL done in Da BOX!!! A minute of Mayhem....... Sorry if the site is down, it's been getting a few hits. If it is down, please try it again later, Thanks... Your friendly neighborhood GORILLA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! R da cymbals 2 low? |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Yeah, cymbs are a bit low, and the sanre is a bit too loud. But i like the guitar sound a lot.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
joz, sounds great. nice song...

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Serge,
I like the guitar line in this very much. I bet some percussion and a simple bass line would add a lot. The vocal melody almost seems separate from what the guitar is doing in places, partially because the guitar is so busy. But, I think this is a very good initial effort, and I commend you guys on a good job. Please feel free to post any of your stuff here, and thanks for the listen. ~Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Plastik909,
Interesting piece...thanks for the listen. What do you use for your sounds? |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here

I use a Korg EM1, Novation A Station, Boss DR 770, stuff I get on my Mini Disc out and about and a bunch of outboard effects and plug in’s. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Joz. Great track as usual
Gorilla. I don't think the cymbals are too low, I think the rest of the drums are too loud. Nice guitar. Serge. Yep, I can hear that you used 57s on the guitar. Only the best dynamics will work on acoustic guitars IMO. And the 57 is nowhere near the best. Man, you play very well, so do yourself a favor and buy yourself a pair of small condensers. Think of the cost of your guitar, then ask yourself if you are doing it justice by sticking a 57 in front of it Great playing, keep it up. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Aussie, but that wasnt me playing. LoL. Im a Drummer. But what kind do you recommend, im going to try for some Oktavas or some Marshall Mics. Im 16 so im Strapt for cash.

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Also Aussie, i have a very high quality Tama set... Starclassic Performer 5peice. What do you recommend i use on those? Thanks

Nice fret work SergeK...I'll worked on those drum sounds, cool techno Plastik909, hey Joz that reminds me of the Go-Go's... cool, nice mix!!!!
Hey Roy, I aint been here in awhile....anymore KILLA Slide riffs lately???? I think my next Metal tune I'm gonna add a INSANE Slide solo on it ala ROY style!!! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Gorilla... well, after listening to your song cranked up (still loud from last night), I can safely say I'm wide awake now... I enjoyed it, man... is this the same group you've been working with?.... thanks, Roy
Joz, Great job on 'I'll get by'... obviously a superb production. I love to hear a song that doesn't take itself too seriously (lyrically, or in subject matter), but is produced with serious attention to detail. You do an excellent job, man... ~Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy, you hit it right on. Im sure if I ask my singer what the **** she's talking about Im sure it would be something serious(as she usually does)even if the "serious" meaning of the song doesnt come through. but the goal is to make it lyricaly simple(not meaning though) so I guess she succeded at that . I guess if fans want to know what the songs are about they'd have to ask us, coz its almost impossible to guess from the lyrics coz we dont give out many clues there
But somehitng that needs to be transparent and come through is the production. Joz |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Well Guys, here it is "Strawboss"
I know this is supposed to be your latest stuff, but in reality, this is the first full rock project I ever took on solo (recording, mixing, and mastering with no assistants). Prior to this, it was almost all jazz and classical, or an assistant myself. It's been a while, more than three years I think since this session (they really need to get back in the studio, they've come a long way), but I'd still love to get some opinions (it's amazing how far you come in three years). Click on the broadband link, it should open right up in windows media player, and yes, that photo is of the live room where I work during the day (and night ) Just to let anyone wondering know: -gobs of mics (too many and various to list) -just stock mackie pre's (old ones too!) -no outboard processing, just plugins -entirely mixed in pro tools (TDM 24 mix plus) Great thread here, I'd listen to more tunes if it weren't for this pesky dialup connection. Thanks for any replies. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy,
Here is a link to some MP3s of songs from Jonathan Barnes' newest CD we recorded last year. These contain about a minute of each song. http://www.barnesmusic.com/12/media.htm Russ |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Wow cool stuff on this page alone!!I have been gone (I did this one with reason and am having a ball with it!!!)
My guitars were amplitube also.It will be background music for an x games type show during the rider profile. The tune is beyond reason.Real original I know http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/517/david_evans_jr.html Really dug that tune joz + gorillas crunch mayhem was up my alley! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Chris,
Very nice, man...I listened to the first 3 (for now) and I'm really impressed. Killer singer, guitar sounds, and mix. Were you the engineer on this, and was this released? Good work...thanks, Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy,
I sure was. Recording, mixing, and mastering engineer. (mastering in wavelab) Keep in mind, this was my first real rock job, and done about three years ago. Whenever I listen to it, I wish I could go back and change soooo much. It's nice to keep around to remind me how far I've come, and just how much I loved the experience of making it. You're absolutely right about the singer. Man, a real talent. He'd only been singin' three months before they went into the studio. (we didn't even use autotune, although he could have used it in places) It hasn't been picked up, and I'm not sure the band wants it to be, they've come so far musically, but you'd have to ask them about that. It's quite amazing. To hear their new songs really makes this material seem amateur-ish. The album has managed to get them some fantastic gigs though. They've played the WB new talent showcases (even though they didn't get signed), and just last week the lead guitarist was asked to accompany Marc Broussard (another good friend and great songwriter imo) in opening for Willie Nelson on his 70th birthday. Some of the stories i've heard from that gig need to be written in a memoir somewhere. Even though the prior incarnation opened for ZZ-top and Skynyrd way back when, these guys just can't seem to get signed, but I love 'em. Everybody, I'm sure you can find something in there to give a little criticism on. I'm looking to improve, not just accept compliments. So, open the floodgates, tear the pieces limb from limb, I can take it ! Really though, all replies are welcome and appreciated. Thanks again for giving it a gander Roy. |

Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Russ (Ridger),
It's nice to hear the songs longer now...they sound good, very smooth... Jonathon Barnes is a talented guy for sure. Is this done at your studio?..... thanks, Roy Hey Dave(neatguys), Whoa...very cool piece. Sounds like it will be perfect as background music for that. You're getting Reason and Amplitube to work nicely for you. I just got into Amplitube myself, and I'm lovin it with my Strat. Really nice, though. thanks, Roy Chris Cavell, I'm really impressed then, that you were that involved with these songs. Remember, we all look back at what we did last year and hear something we could improve, but you did a great job. As I said, I listened to just the 1st 3(due to time) but I'll check out some more later. Just keep it up... ~Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
BOCEPHUS!!!!!!! Skyking I don't listen to much Country, but I dug that song!!! Nice GEEEEETAR!!!! Seriously Oh yeah...Milwaukee Fest and Harley's 100th anniversary in da same WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris song number four was getting good and faded out dangit!! Neatguys cool synths, that should go great with some X-games manuvers!!!! Hey Ridger nice stuff too, Just how old is that Fender amp and Les Paul? Yeah Roy that Primate stuff is my main project...Try to make it as Heavy and Brutal as I can.... Finally figured Battery out and now the sky is the limit as to how INSANE I want the drums!! There's some seriously GREAT talent on this board...man if Digi can get that Rocket-Digi studio thing running again, I'd love to hook up with a few guys/gals on a tune or two!!! |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Thanks Roy+Gorilla!!!
We should start an amplitube preset exchange!!!! Email me if ya want some of mine.Gorilla I still need the ones you sent me awhile back.Didnt back them up before a reformat!! I have all the new Ik presets also. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
neatguys/Dave,
I'm painting today so this'll be quick (my 'canvas' unfortunatly is up on the roof...I'm re-painting the trim up there... )... but, do me a favor if you get a chance. In Amplitube, on the preset 'Heaven'(I believe), under the 'Amp' heading... there is a constant hiss with that setting. (not the little hiss that comes with the demo, this is the real Amplitube). I love the clean preset sound, but I'm trying to get rid of that hiss. I notice that it goes away by turning off the entire EQ section, but of course the sound itself loses it's appeal... there's gotta be a way within the EQ to pull back the hiss, but I haven't found it. Let me know if you have a chance to check it out. And exchanging presets is a good idea...we'll have to get into it as we go here... thanks, Roy |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
I have an Amplitube question. I'm running a Win98SE/PIII machine with the 001. Would I need to upgrade my machine and OS to use Amplitube with no latency? You know, while I'm tracking. I would love to have it.
|
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
well I have decent results with the 128 buffer setting. Are you able to rec. at 128 with amplitube now?The asio driver willallow you to use the 001's in and outs into other comatible software also. For now 128 buffer has been good enough for me for now.I am running a p4 1.6 with 512 ram.I can only get two instances of amplitube with sampletank simultainiously with this though.
Roy I will dig into that .I like this clean now. http://www.amplitube.com/ATPresets.h...tageSuperClean http://www.amplitube.com/ATPresets.html#LushClean This ones cool also.I thought the vintage super cln. was tubey! Yeah someone with a server could set an amplitube preset thing for us 6 string and 7 etc.. stringers. The files are tiny so downloading them is no problem if ya dont have cable. |
Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
EDIT:
The following post is outdated. Modern computers should allow you to record at the lower buffers (lower latencies) rendering this technique useless. It's here just incase anyone wants to bother with it, which is not very likely anymore. ORIGINAL POST: How to keep plugins enabled in Low Latency Mode: 1) make an aux channel, set it's input as if it were an audio track, route the aux track out to a bus. 2) make an audio track, set it's input as the output bus of the aux track. Load amplitube on this track. (Low latency mode will not disable inserts or sends on aux tracks or audio tracks that have a bus assigned as it's input!) I don't think very many people know about this "bypassing" of PTLE's low latency side-affects. I was stoked upon discovering it. I use it for enabling reverbs during tracking, as well as for making different headphone mixes for each musician during tracking (since the sends aren't disabled, you can get up to 10 different headphone mixes, 5 on the audio tracks, and 5 on the auxes. Of course, there is still a minimal latency, but much less than I expected upon it's discovery, much less than Nuendo. CPU speed plays a big role in this, so it may not work very well for slower systems. (I'm at 2.4GHz, 533MHz front side bus, 1 gig DDR 333.) I hope some of you guys find this as useful as I have. Re: Let\'s hear your latest stuff....right here
Roy, Neatguys, Gorilla,
thanks for your comments re: Jonathan Barnes. Yes, tracks were recorded in my studio except for the drums that were recorded with portable equipment that I set up in Jonathan's basement. Jonathan has some classic instruments besides the Les Paul (which he plays a mean slide guitar on). He also played a resonator, a Kay guitar (remember those?) a fine banjo and a very old mandolin which is worth more than my cars. I now own some additional equipment for tracking (an NTK and a Fosusrite pre were acquired since) but all of the tracks in my studio were captured by my digi001 converters and preamps. Russ |
