PTLE play back problem - possible loss of clients...

hello everyone, I'm in a little bit of trouble and I can't seem to get past this particular hurdle. I'm currently in the middle of 3 seperate recording sessions and was just about to get started mixing them. Protools has been working great these last 10 months without a major hitch, but now I am just stuck.

Everything works fine, up until I attempt to play the session. It doesn't matter if it's 1 track or 24, it just locks up. I've defragmented my drives and scandisked them as well. I have plenty of space available on all of my drives too. I close everything running in the background, so that it is just protools that is running. Sometimes I get a fatal error message, other times i have to ctrl alt delete out of the program. It acts as if it's trying to play it but after awhile it just dies. I can play files through my digi001 while protools isn't open, like mp3s and such. like I said before, up until a week ago, it was working great.

here's my setup:

protools 5.1 le , windows ME , 256 pc133 ram, asus motherboard, 30 gig maxtor HD, sblive 5.1 soundcard

please let me know if you have any suggestions. at this point in time, i'm just searching for the light at the end of the tunnel. any and all help is much appreciated!

thanks,

-gabe

I'm sorry to bump this up, I'm just super desperate here.... my only solution seems to be in reinstalling protools, since I can't seem to figure this out. Please, if anyone has any suggestions or things to check, please help a fellow digi user out!

thanks!

When I was still working on Macs we sometimes had similar problems and they way we solved them was to trash the DAE preferences forlder.Aparently it gets corrupted. That was on macs but you might want to try it.If that doesnt work, try uninstalling and re-installing PT.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I believe you can just delete the folder. Protools will recreate it. (NOT the Dae folder, just the dae/prefs folder)

I always find the best thing to do is reformat then reload your OS and then PT. If it works after that start adding the extra programs you run, testing each time after you load one. this will track down a culprit conflict. Or....go back through your notes..If you take notes on things you do to your computer, and check on the last few things you did or loaded and reverse the process. I am going to state the simple here and suggest checking the DMA on the hard drive. Check the device manager and performance tab and make sure there are none of those pesky yellow !!!!! and the performance is not in compatability mode. This is all conflict type stuff and can be troubleshot if you can isolate the culprit. See first comment.
Just my experience hope it helps.
Try to remember if you did anything recently to change your computer NO MATTER HOW SMALL and reverse it. believe me I have had little things cause big problems.
