Pro Tools 6.4 cs9 LE crash at launch
Hello,
I just built up a new computer and Pro Tools crashes immediately at launch. There is no blue screen of death, but a reboot. There are no resulting error or diagnostic messages. I am running an older version, 6.4CS9 LE. I have searched for suggestions and have tried several, none of which work to fix this problem. 1) Disable all non microsoft services and reboot, with and without MME running --> crashes 2) Disable microsoft audio services and reboot --> crashes 3) Test both before and after cs9 was installed --> crashes either way The only way I can get it to launch is booting in safe mode. This tells me I have some sort of driver conflict. I am not sure what it is though. I am running Windows XP Home SP2, with Gigabyte 965p-s3 MOBO, 2GB ram, E4300 core 2 duo. I am really stumped as to what I need to do to fix this. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Greg |
Re: Pro Tools 6.4 cs9 LE crash at launch
You have a dual core CPU. Only 7x takes advantage of multiple core CPU's. Either upgrade to 7x or disable one core when you want to run Pro Tools.

Re: Pro Tools 6.4 cs9 LE crash at launch
Hi!
Thanks so much for the tip. I tried disabling one of the cores on the CPU, and that did not work. I edited the boot.ini file with /numproc=1 to run only one core, and rebooted. I verified in the task manager there was only 1 core running, but when I started protools, it still crashed. Do you think that 7.0 and better will for sure work with my setup? Maybe this work around won't work for 6.4. Could there be anything else wrong? Thanks, Greg |

Update your PACE drivers from www.paceap.com

Re: Pro Tools 6.4 cs9 LE crash at launch
That was it!
I updated those drivers and no problems anymore. I can even launch ProTools without disabling one of my cores. Thanks all for your help. Greg |
