Is it Toast or your Burner? Remember the issue Yamaha 400 had with firmware a few years ago where cd's would not play in high end cd players. Had a friend with same burner on his pc and me on the Mac. We had same results. Firmware update fixed it.
What burner are you using? How could the mixes be wrong? It is only burning what you have bounced down. Do you use a 2 track editor to look at your mixes first. That may give a clue. I had a problem with my L1 clipping too much and had to back off a bit in that scenario.

There was a long string about this in the MLCD area... to summarize...

As far as the playback in different CD players issue, it's not necessarily a Toast issue but a recordable disc issue.

Unfortunately, burning audio CD's on consumer level burners is not 100%. This same symptom occurs occasionally, not often but sometimes, with Masterlist CD as it does, I'm sure, with any application that writes CD's.

If it seems to happen more often than it should with your system then you may need to have your burner recalibrated. CD burners often do fall out of calibration to varying degrees causing symptoms ranging from your playback issues to not being able to write a disc.

If you can get your hands on another burner, try it for a while and see if you have any better results.

As far as the mix sounding different... I can't speak for Toast but in MLCD it's a straight digital copy, meaning what you put in is what you get out. You might want to talk to Adaptec on that one...

Some players, as well as burners, can be funky. When was the last time you cleaned your burner (or players)? You might also want to experiment with different media.

As far as getting a burner recalibrated, considering the high price of repairs these days, it's probably much smarter to throw the old one out and just buy a new unit.

Do you get the same results with Jam?

One other thought: If this is a caddy-style burner, you might want to try a brand new caddy.

Try Gold on Gold Cd's. Not green, blue or silver. I had the same problem until I started using gold on gold only. Write at 4X's and definitely update your firmware by going online to the manufacturer.
Good Luck, I know it's a pain to get caught up in all this technical stuff. A smooth running ship is a blessing, everything else is pure hell.

Hi,

Is your CD-burner new? How manny hours did it burn yet? Some tech guy told me once that the lazershead inside burners go for about 200 hours of burning, and then begin to roll off on performance. You should try to burn some cd-roms with toast, and then let it do the verify thing after the burning-proces. If you get some errors on the different verify`s, than you should defenately change your burner (=cheaper than replacing the lazerhead) .

Note that toast burns orange book cd's (=track at once), and that some cd-players don't like orange-book cd's.
You could try Jam, Waveburner or MLCD, which all write Red-book cd's (=disk at once). Red-book cd's are like standard commercial audio cd's.
Oh yes: don't burn cd's at single speed!

I've found that this has more to do with the media than the burner (or a combination of the two, but the media is the best solution). For my burner (a glyph/yamaha) the gold media works always, the silver/blue (more popular now) can have problems on some players
