i7 Build - BSOD
 

Hey everybody,

I've been trying to get this i7 build up and running for WAY too long. For some reason it seems I'm running into every possible problem. I even paid someone to make sure all the drivers were installed and the system was running properly. The machine runs slow for how fast it should be. For example, when I open PT it takes a couple of seconds to even open up the PT loading window. Before PT can open, I get a hard blue screen force restart. The error message is "BAD_POOL_HEADER" 0x00000019. I'm running PT8. I believe this has something to do with RAM but I really have no clue beyond that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check the BIOS M.I.T that the Memory Frequency is 1066, although I'd seat DDR3 1333. Is Marvell 9128 Driver installed for those SATA3 6GB HDD's? Are they connected to GSATA Bus 6 and 7?

Whilst this is probably not the cause for BSOD it should help PT performance once you are up & running.

Download and install the plugin updater file from here;

Click on view Available Downloads.

In Pro Tools go to Setup>Playback Engine and set processors to one less than you have currently set & select CPU limit to 95%. If necessary keep decreasing processors x1 increment at a time checking after each change. Set Cache level to 2.

If you have any incompatible plugins your performance will go down. The plugin updater file should take care of most but you may want to check plugin compatibility list;

BSOD is, more often than even I'd like to admit, a hardware issue. RAM is most common cause, then it could also be the motherboard CPU or display adapter.

I cant tell you how many cases of BSOD I've solved just by replacing the RAM with a different brand. (see the motherboard support list in the gigabyte website)

When looking at your specs and Sandra report, it seems like your RAM model is CL8 yet its running in CL7 timing. 1st thing would be to loosen the timing and make sure all RAM speed and specs are setup to manual (not AUTO) and using correct values in the BIOS.

I originally suspected the RAM as a faulty component, but I have replaced it twice already. This ram is supported by my mobo as well. When I paid a technian to work on the computer, he did extensive testing on the RAM and CPU through sandra and everything tested really well. I am fairly certain this is not a hardware issue.
I'm using the OCZ spec timings for the sticks. Memory Frequency appears 1349.71 MHz in M.I.T.

I'm guessing the 6GB was a typo and you meant 1TB.

I installed the latest chipset drivers from gigabyte. They are not Marvell 9128 drivers. Why do you believe I should be running this driver?

They are plugged into SATA2_0 and SATA2_1. Is this a problem?

No, not really a problem but more beneficial if you use those 1TB SATA3 (6GB Transfer speeds) on GSATA (Gigabyte SATA3 Chip driven by Marvell 91xx?

yes, I don't think RAM is the culprit.

I tested the HDD's in Sandra and they came up with mid ranged overall scores (5-6). Does the seem low for the drives?
