I will be catching up on the new stuff hopefully tonight(Chris, I'll do an A/B of your mixes)...I've barely had time to post lately.

Hey guys - Been working on a lot of Shannons (my wife) music. Here is one of her recently finished works:
Thick Air

Its an unusual song. She has a lot of different singing voices, and this is one of them!
I like the words to it.
While I am pretty happy with the mix, piano, and keys in general are one of my weak points, so I would appreciate any hints. The song was tracked on tape originally. Recorded just before I got into PTLE - all direct with one Shure 58 on vocals and piano.

Roy you hit the nail on the head with Bigfoot - I got a definate visual of some sonic sasquatch rocking down the forest

Hey - is that a killer whah, or are you using a voicebox?

okay...you guys can listen to me learning PT from the ground floor up!
I just got ProTools and bought the IK Studio Bundle.

Here is a demo of some parts to a tune I hope to "really" record down the road.
Again, just one-taker vocal/guitar parts. I was more interested in actually recording/using the interface and working plugins/automation/etc...so I apologies for some flat notes on vox and some missed notes on guitar!

Unclaimed Baggage

I must say, being a previous owner of a Roland VS1680, I LOVE THE 002/PT combo!!!
I am just scratching the surface, but the learning curve is not as bad as thought it would be

I used Sampletank, T-Racks, RODE NT2, Larrivee acoustic, 002

Now...to REALLY start recording tunes!

Peace,
Keith

Thanks Kev...
I really like Shannon's song...really nice chords... I would just suggest bringing up the presence of her voice...it sounds a little buried in the keyboards. Very pretty song though, and good job overall.

...think I might actually be numbing myself to the differences, so, if you would please replace my own ears for a bit...

And, as usual, any suggestions, comments, questions, thoughts, criticisms, rants, raves, etc. regarding the mix are certainly welcome and appreciated.

So, without further ado:

A or B

Which do you prefer and why?

Cheers to all,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Just listened to A and B, and given that my ears are 'tired' from mixing too ( ), I prefer A over B. The difference is very subtle, but A seems to be more alive than B in that it has slightly more 'bite' to it, especially noticeable in the dynamics of the piano. Is A the 'Rock' setup you mentioned, as opposed to B being the Symph setup?...and is it partially that B is more compressed than A? You have me curious now...
I hope my ears are being fairly true tonight, because they've been bombarded the last few days. Let me know....... by the way, what a fantastic piece.....I'm gonna take it with me to Destin in a few weeks with your permission. And thanks for the comments on 'Moonbeam Seduction' too.

graveleye,

very nice work on that tune, it's a very well written tune. I actually like the kind of lo-fi piano sound for this, I think it sounds better than a sampled piano would have.

Great stuff.

Roy, very nice playing as usual.

"unclaimed baggage" is very cool as well.

later.
