using control 24 mic pre\'s with 002R

i just sold my G5 with mbox because im going to be working on building my own full studio soon.

i wanted to get the digi 002rack with the control 24, but i was wondering if i could use all 16 mic pres on the control 24?

if not, how would i be able to utilize the most mic pres possible. could i just plug the control 24 into my computer via ethernet and have pro tools just recognize all the pres? i dont have enough money for an HD system, so i have to stick to LE for the time being. i dont want to make the mistake of buying the wrong equipment. thanks!

Re: using control 24 mic pre\'s with 002R

Do a search. I have ordered my Control 24 and am waiting to receive it.

Basically the ethernet transmits control language back and forth from protools, that's it.

The preamp section is standalone and does not transmit through ethernet, but through two db-25
connectors on the back, almost like direct outs on an analog console. Mic-pre to output with a
gain control thrown in.

So to answer your question, the first 8 channels from the C24 would go into the 8 analog in's on the
002R, and then you could use an 8 channel lightpipe converter box for the other 8 channels, total
of 16 in's. Or..you could use the 002r's built in preamps (4) and 14 of the control 24 preamps to
the 002R (4 analog, 8 optical, and 2 spdif), with a spdif 2 channel converter box of course.

I have the same setup as you it seems.

I route C24 mic pre's 1-8 into the line inputs of the 002R.

I then route C24 mic pre's 9-16 into a Focusrite Octopre's line inputs and then come out of the ADAT port into the lightpipe input on the 002R.

This gives you 16 channels of mic pre's from the C24 and you can record them all at the same time.

Basically you need a line level to ADAT converter. I happened to have an Octopre but you can use anything from a fostex vc8 upwards.

Cheers
