"Audio Device Buffer Underflowed" Constant Error!

I've reached the peak of frustration with Avid and Pro Tools..
No matter how many tracks or what session I have open, during recording or playback I will constantly get the 6065 error 'Audio Device Buffer Underflowed' Error.

I have tried everything possible!.. I have reduced and increased the H/W Buffer Size, Restarted Pro Tools, Restarted my PC, Re-installed Pro Tools.. to no success. (Pro Tools is running in administrator mode)

My system specifications are listed below..

I would greatly appreciate your help!..

Thank You

This is a problem - you need a minimum of 7200 RPM hard drive.

Here's some info that might help:

IMPORTANT! You MUST use a secondary hard drive (not your main OS drive) for recording and playback of audio in Pro Tools. Recording or playback from the OS drive is known to be problematic and the cause of many different error types. If you are using your system drive and encountering errors, the first thing you should do is get a compatible drive. USB drives are not supported and are known to be problematic, so please do not use them with Pro Tools. If you're recording or playing back from a USB drive and are getting errors in Pro Tools, please switch to using a compatible external firewire drive or internal SATA/ATA/IDE drive and disconnect the USB drive.

Pro Tools supports recording and playback to a secondary drive that meets the following requirements:

7200 rpm or faster
9ms seek time or faster

Firewire drives must have the Oxford 911 (FW400 port), Oxford 912 (FW400 & FW800 ports) or Oxford 924 (FW800 ports) Bridge chip. USB drives are not supported and are known to be problematic. Here are some useful links to determine if the drive you have, or are considering, has the proper chipset:

Chipsets used in Maxtor external drives
Chipsets used in Seagate external drives

Pro Tools FireWire Drive Requirements on Windows Systems
Pro Tools EIDE/ATA Hard Drive Requirements on Windows Systems
Pro Tools SATA Hard Drive Requirements on Windows Systems
Pro Tools SCSI Hard Drive Requirements on Windows Systems

And make sure you do this:

Note: To enable other users to help you, please include all of your system details when posting an issue to the DUC; Pro Tools hardware, Pro Tools software version, CPU, OS version, Motherboard make/model, chipset, amount of RAM, type of hard drives used, etc.

- Please - Use SiSoftware's Sandra Lite application to generate a full system profile:

Under SiSoftware Sandra, click on "Download & Buy" to download the free Sandra Lite version or purchase other versions. After installing Sandra, click on the 'Hardware' tab and run the 'Computer Overview', then copy and paste into your post here on the DUC.

Hey,
Thank you for the reply :)..

I realised this and I replaced the 5400RPM dirve with a Seagate 1TB 7200RPM drive, but I am still getting the same error and now my audio will just go silent midway through playback before the error occurs in some cases.

My Detailed System Specs are below

Really appreciate your help! :)

Is your new Seagate 7200rpm drive USB?

Drc,

If you re-read the last sentence, he gives you the answer.

Network Adapter : Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
Wireless Adapter 1 : Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter (802.11g (ERP), WEP n-bit, 54Mbps)

Both these must be disabled when running Pro Tools:rolleyes:

Thank you for all your replies!

After disabling my wireless and bluetooth adaptors on my notebook, I still got the error on one particular session. Other sessions seem to be fine though, so it could just sum up to a corrupt session.

Thank you for all your help!
Appreciate it..

Try importing the tracks from your corrupt session to a new session with import session data. Import them one by one and try playing the session. Often there is one particular track that is corrupted and the others are fine.

Good luck
