I/O\'s

Does anyone know if Digidesign will ever make the 002 upgradable to more than 16 I/O's? That would be nice because the HD is out of my range.

The 001/002/002R all have 18 I/O, not 16.

And (I'm just curious here) what do you need more than that for?

I have a lot of instruments to record into protools sometimes I exceed 16 I/O's, just want to be able to do it all at once...Now the 18 I/O's you mentioned is that spidf for the 2 extras? And how does that work? Do you need to be working with spidf out to spidf in (digital only) i mean i cant plug a guitar into a spidf in port. now i'm curious.

thanks for the get back

With my 001 set up I use a behringer ada8000 to get 8 more inputs. Goes into the optical in on the 001. Works great for me and I think you can chain them together with the light pipe to get more inputs.

is this what youre talking about??

Re: I/O\'s

I know lightpiping to another interface will give you 16 I/O's but the ohter 2 I/O's won't be analog because there are no more left, so they must be the 2 spdif connections...by the way I have that ada8000 too it's great for the price...

Re: I/O\'s

Yes,

The spdif port will give you 2 extra inputs if you have a outboard analog-to-spdif converter. I have used my old 16 bit Sony DAT deck for this purpose, but there are many 24 bit devices that will do it better.

BTW, you cannot "chain" ADA converters together to get more inputs into 002. 8 internal inputs, 8 inputs via ADAT format lightpipe, and 2 inputs via RCA spdif is all you're gonna get.
