Cherry Audio's CA2600 only $12 at AD

Cherry Audio's CA2600 is a really nice mono analog VI modeled after the famous ARP 2600. For a few days, Audio-Deluxe has it for a whopping $12. Its a steal and well worth it.

CA has done a nice job with this one. I've been playing with it all afternoon. It sounds great, has a lot of the flavor of the old ARP 2600. Brings back some memories. Its mono, of course. And you can use virtual cables to route things, just like the 2600. There's a couple things extra on it, like reverb and delay, but they fit in nicely.

CA2600 Synthesizer Features:
  • Every aspect precisely modeled in exacting detail
  • 300+ of presets
  • Monophonic and duophonic voice modes
  • Vintage-correct multi-mode filter with 12db and 24db slope
  • Integrated, fully CV-controllable distortion, reverb, and delay with sync
  • Sidechain audio input for external signal processing
  • Flexible CV Routing
  • Multiple voice assign modes
  • Advanced patch cabling with unlimited mults per jack, “quick patch” for rapid multiple destination routing, and click and drag movement of multiple connections
  • Additional LFO with six waveforms and tempo sync
  • Voltage Processors section with additional VCA and 1/2-step quantizer
  • Selectable blue, gray, or black/orange color schemes
  • Full MIDI control
  • Full DAW automation for all controls
  • CA2600 is available in AU, VST, VST3, AAX, and standalone formats.

If you're looking for that old analog mono sound, for $12, how could you go wrong?

I've pretty much bought all their synths. They are tasty.

Bought it. I like it.

Just a little heads up:
At audiodeluxe checkout, I got a UVI soundbank called Grand Piano Model D at $49. I couldn't even remove it from the order. Looking closer I found that it was actually free, the total was still only $12. So I ordered it.

The authorization of the 2600 was easy. But to use the UVI soundbank, I had to download UVI workstation (free) to host it, as I don't have falcon and never used UVI before. UVI, like many, has this 'install/authorization' program they insist that you install. It's pretty convoluted, but I did find that it's possible to register the soundbank, get the ilok license, activate it, without installing their manager.

I thought; I don't need another piano, but after a quick test, I found it actually sounds fantastic! I also got a small bank of examples from their big library of soundbanks.

So thanks again, Donald.

Yeah, UVI at least lets you do without the manager program if you want. The Model D is a good piano, funny that you can get such a library free now. UVI has some amazing products.

I've been curious about the Cherry 2600. Certainly don't need it but I always wanted the real thing... I'll check it out.

The first one is free, then you’re hooked.

Ben, UVI has some VERY nice freebies. But, their paid modules are great too. And Falcon...well...what can I say? It's a beast! Its an amazing VI with lots of powerful tools for sound design.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. I learned sythesis on the ARP 2600 and a Moog. CA has done a nice job modeling their CA2600 after the ARP. Brings back memories of grabbing patch chords and routing the signal path.

My only complaint with CA VI's I've tried is they are CPU hogs, especially Dreamsynth and Voltage Modular. But the CA2600 is light on CPU.

Just for fun, I loaded the 2600 into the Combinator in Reason (standalone mode). I stacked 3 of the 2600's to create a nice fat analog bass. Barely moved the CPU needle. I could never do that with Voltage or Dreamsynth.
